Marinette's POV
I took a seat next to Luka in the restaurant. I can't believe Adrien would hit Luka like that. Luka was nothing but kind to him, and he had the audacity to hit him. It was confusing and ridiculous to me.
"Are you sure you're okay?" I asked Luka for the millionth time. "I can still get ice from the waiter, if you want. Do you need Advil? Maybe we should go to the hospital? It looks painful, and I think you should get it checked out. What if your jaw is broken? Are you—"
"Marinette," Luka stopped my rambling, "I'm fine, but you're excessive rambles are giving me a headache."
He and I laughed at his comment for a few minutes. Then he turned to me with a more serious face.
"Marinette, I have to tell you something kind of important," he told me.
I nodded, but grew a little worried about what he was going to say to me. Was he going to tell me we couldn't be friends? Was he going to tell me that he needs to go to the hospital? Was he going to ask me if—
"Adrien and I were talking about you when you left the table," he told me.
I tensed thinking of all of the terrible things they could have been saying.
I decided to ask, "W-what exactly w-were you guys talking about?"
I expected him to list all of my many faults. He would start with my exterior look, and then dive into how bad my personality is.
"I was talking about how much I want you to be mine," he said without missing a beat.
I raised one of my eyebrows.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked with my head cocked to the side.
"Marinette Dupain-Cheng, I mean I like you," he admitted as he grabbed my hand.
I immediately turned red at his statement. He just admitted he had feelings for me. Nobody has ever admitted their feelings to me. Well, except the people who admitted their feeling of hate to me.
"W-what?" I asked because it was the only thing I could say with making a bigger fool of myself.
"Honestly, I was talking about how much I wanted you to be mine," he started to elaborate. "I told him that I wanted to kiss you, and hold you tight to me."
He rubbed the back of my hand with his thumb as he looked at me.
"I also told him a few dirtier things I wanted to do to you," he explained as the hand not holding mine went to grasp my thigh.
I sucked in a breath, and looked down to my thigh. He was near a forbidden area, and it was honestly making me uncomfortable. He started to stroke my thigh as it became harder to breathe for me. I focused on my thigh until I felt his breath on my neck.
"Lots of dirty things," he whispered in a husky, seductive voice.
That's when he kissed my neck lightly. I let out a noise that sounded like a quiet moan. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't having the reaction I was having because I liked Luka. I only saw Luka as a close friend. The reason I was having my reaction was because I was never. . .touched the way Luka was touching me right now. I knew I had to stop it soon, but I couldn't when I had lost my breath.
"What do you say we go back to my place and do some of those dirty things I wanted to do to you," he suggested.
That's when I knew I had to stop it.
"L-Luka, I-I don't really like you like. . .t-that," I exclaimed in stutters. "I-I'm sorry I can't reciprocate."
I thought I would dent his ego a little bit, but his smile didn't change at all.
He whispered to me in that husky voice again, "You don't have to like me to be able to do any of these dirty things."
He went to kiss me on the neck, but I shoved him off, and stood up. Of course. I honestly should have seen it from a mile away. That's all he wanted. He didn't want a friendship or a relationship. He wanted a nice hookup. I didn't say anything to him as I left the restaurant. I walked straight out, and was met with the black car that I rode here in. The backseat window rolled down to reveal Adrien.
"Marinette?" He asked, his voice was laced with worry. "Why are you crying?"
I didn't even realize I was crying. I couldn't answer him, and a sob escaped my lips. He motioned for me to get in the car. I did as he instructed, and slid in next to him.
"Tell me what's wrong," he ushered me in a soothing voice.
It took me a minute to be able to let out an actual sentence.
"L-Luka told me t-that he wanted to do dirty things with me," I spat out.
I saw anger pass through Adrien's eyes before his eyes became sincere. He opened his arms, and I didn't hesitate in hugging him.
"I'm so sorry he let you down, Marinette," he said while stroking my hair. "I was only kind to him because you were friends with him. I knew that he was just an asshole trying to get in your pants. I knew I should have told you earlier, but you looked so happy with him around you. I punched him earlier because he said he just wanted to take your virginity. He's the reason I actually kissed you."
The last phrase really made me perk up. The lips started to tingle again at the mention of our kiss. I pulled away from him to look him in the eyes.
"Wait, w-what?" I asked.
He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly before answering, "He told me early on that he wanted to deflower you. So, I thought if he saw you and me kiss then he would back off."
My jaw unhinged and hit the center of the earth. He had never fully explained why he had kissed me, and it had kept me up at night sometimes.
"Oh," I said because it was the only thing I could say in this moment.
"I have an honest question though," Adrien started. He didn't wait for me to give him the go on asking a question and asked, "Why do you trust people?"
His question caught me way off guard.
"Huh?" I asked.
"Why do you trust so many people? People have hurt you. So many people have been terrible to you. You are hurt and abused, and yet you still let people into your life with opened arms. You trusted Luka and he did this to you, so why do you continue to trust?" He explained.
Before I could even think about how to answer, he pulled me into a bear hug again. He held me, and we didn't speak.
The last thing that he said in the car was, "Why do you trust me when I've hurt you so much?"
I knew he meant to say it in his head or was just talking to himself, but I heard him like he was telling me through a megaphone. And I didn't know if I would ever be able to answer him properly.
