Amaya

Unfortunately for me, I managed to get not a single piece of information of Christopher's childhood, leaving me to question if he asked his mother not to talk to me. It was almost like she was avoiding me. Although I was upset, I didn't let it bother me too much. My main focus was to get through to Christopher, not to be friends with his mother.

I got up from the comfort of my bed, deciding that I no longer wanted to stay in my room today and instead go to the living room to watch a movie there. I put on some leggings and an oversized t-shirt before making my way downstairs.

I headed to the kitchen first, pouring a bag of Dorito's into a bowl and grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge before heading over to the living room.

It was empty and there was no sign of Christopher anywhere. I used that to my advantage, turning the TV on and spending the first few minutes learning how to use it before looking for Netflix. I went to the horror section, scrolling through the countless movies until I decided to stop at a classic horror movie, 'The Conjuring'. Although I've watched it many times, I still enjoy watching it and I want to watch it again after having not seen it in months.

I could tell the the house was empty and other than the light of the TV, the rest of the house was much darker making the whole scene scarier which I personally loved. Plus, the movie wasn't as scary as it was when I first watched it.

. . .

The sound of a door closing made me jump in my spot as the credits to the movie rolled in. I turned to the door, seeing a dark figure standing there, facing me. My heart almost jumped out of my chest until I realised that the figure was none other than Christopher himself.

I grabbed my phone, checking to see the time which was 1:23AM. Christopher moved away from the doorway towards me, turning to look at the TV before looking back at me. From the light of the TV, I could tell that his clothes were slightly disheveled. I decided not to question it, waiting for him to speak up first.

"Whatchu' doin'?" His voice cut through the tension that was starting to build up, like a knife.

"Watching a movie. Well, it just finished but I was planning to watch another movie." I spoke, trying to meet his eyes although the room was extremely dark.

"Genre?" He questioned, taking a step closer towards me.

"Horror." I watched him nod, taking in a breath as he looked at the TV screen as it switched back to the description of the movie. I watched him nod again as he saw what movie I was just watching.

"Put on 'Nightmare on Elm Street', I'll come down and watch wit' you. Lemme go change first. Oh, don't start the movie 'til I get down and go grab some snacks or somethin', I'm hungry." I smiled as he turned and walked up the stairs.

I got up, rushing to the kitchen and grabbing a few chip packets as well as lollies and 2 more bottles of water before rushing back to the living room. I cleaned up my mess and then sat, waiting for Christopher to come down the stairs which didn't take too long.

It looked like he'd had a shower since his hair was wet and sitting on his head. My eyes trailed down to his plain white t-shirt and grey sweat pants. Although his outfit was simple, he looked extremely good. I turned away from him, putting on the movie he wanted to watch.

"Aye, pass me the gummy bears." Christopher spoke up as he sat down next to me. I handed him the gummy bears before taking notice of how close he was next to me. It didn't go unnoticed that he left a small gap between us but his close proximity was still something abnormal to me.

"Do you want anything else?" I asked, wanting to know before the movie actually began so that I wouldn't get distracted.

"Uh nope, I'm good." I nodded at him before turning to the movie.

There was a comfortable feeling between Christopher and I throughout the movie, everything felt so normal.

Christopher

I blinked away the sleep from my eyes as I watched the credits finally roll up on the screen. A yawn escaped my lips as I turned to look at Amaya who I only just noticed, had her head resting against my shoulder as she slept.

My eyes widened slightly before I grabbed for my phone, the time read 3:45AM and I couldn't help but let out another yawn from just looking at the time. I stared at the empty coffee table, remembering how Amaya got up during the movie to clean up our mess. I grabbed the remote, turning the TV off before yawning again.

I sighed, ready to get up but I didn't want to wake Amaya up by moving my body so I turned, slipping my hands under her knees and under her back before lifting her up as I stood up too. I headed over to the stairs, making my way up to Amaya's room.

I noticed her shift a little as I walked up the stairs and to her room. Luckily, the door was open, only needing me to softly kick it open with my foot before walking in and towards Amaya's bed. I placed her on it before attempting to pull the covers out from under her. Just as I finally covered her up, her hand reached out and gripped my wrist before I could leave.

"Don't go." Her voice was so quiet, I almost couldn't hear it. "Sleep here, please." She continued, her eyes opening slightly to look at me. I sighed, biting my lip in thought. "Please." She pleaded and I sighed again.

"Fine, lemme' jus' close the door." She nodded, letting go of my wrist so that I could go and close the door.

I headed back over to her bed, crawling into the right side since she shuffled over to the left side, obviously making room for me. I let out a satisfied sigh as my body relaxed into the bed. I pulled the sheets over my body, about to fall asleep until I felt an arm drape over my waist and a head rest against my chest.

I looked at Amaya with the moon being the only thing providing light. It was just enough light to see Amaya look up at me, giving me a small smile before closing her eyes. I watched her for a few minutes as her breathing slowed and something in my chest started hurting, like chains tightening on my heart.

I frowned knowing that I hadn't felt like this in a long time and honestly, I didn't know how to feel about it. I didn't know how to feel about Amaya and I sleeping in the same bed, nor did I know how to feel about her hugging me as she slept but I did know that I didn't entirely hate the  somewhat familiar feeling.
