Sarah Williams sighed, slamming her pencil down in frustration. Her algebra homework was splayed out in front of her, the current cause of her increasingly growing headache. She had been working on it for hours and still hadn't managed to get through even half of the assignment.
It was driving her insane.
The blond haired girl leaned back in her seat, hands over her face, and let out a muffled scream.
Somewhere to her right, an amused chuckle rang out.
"Glad to see you find this so amusing, Dad." Sarah said, voice still muffled from her hands.
John Williams came into the room with a smile and took his daughter's hands from her face. "I'm sorry, sweetheart. It's just that I've told you over and over not to stress over this so much. You'll get it eventually."
Sarah frowned. "But I don't have time for eventually, Dad! I need to make sure I have good grades so I can get into a good college one day and-"
"And you will." Her father interrupted her. "You'll get there. It just takes time." He gently kissed her on the forehead. "But for now," he started out, snatching Sarah's textbook up and tucking it under his arm as she let out a startled noise of indignation, "You are going to take a break. Well, a break from this at least. Get up. I need you to watch your sister while I'm gone to work."
"Wait, what? No, Dad! I have to study. Please just-" Sarah fumbled for the words to convince him until her dad held up a hand to stop her.
"No arguing. You haven't spent time with your sister in ages and now is as good a time as any for that to happen." he stated.
Thunder suddenly boomed outside the house, causing the both of them to flinch in surprise.
"You're going out in this weather? Seriously, Dad?" The young teen asked worriedly. "What if something happens?"
"Bosses orders, kiddo." he said, leaning down to give her a quick hug. "Don't worry, okay? I'll be fine. I'll see you both later. Don't wait up for me if it gets late." He walked toward the door before turning around and giving his daughter one final look. "Relax. I mean it." Then he was gone.
Sarah listened as her father's car drove off, before groaning and finally forcing herself to get up. "Harper!" she called out, walking down the stairs before turning and seeing her younger sister playing with some dolls on the living room floor.
The small blond headed child glanced up, before grinning widely. She threw her toys down before running towards her sister and tackling her in a hug. "Sarah!" she squealed, hugging her sister tighter. "Dad said that he had to go to work and you had to do whatever I wanted! Is that true?" The young girl asked, looking up at Sarah in excitement.
