Chapter 16: Arlo's Origins

So you can regenerate from any damage you take?, aiger asked arlo. Yeah pretty much, arlo answered. It runs in the family. Why don't you tell us about your family, nika asked. Okay, if you insist, he answered. First, there was nothing but chaos, arlo explained. I didn't mean that far, nika explained. But that's were my family began, arlo told her. Anyway, then, my great great grandmother, gaea, came to be. Then, my great great grandfather and my great great great uncle came along. Ouranus, primordial god of the heavens, and Pontus, primordial god of the sea. Wait, your a god?, aiger shouted. Not exactly, but that's not the point, arlo shouted offended. Then gaea, gave birth to multiple monsters called, the titans. But uranus imprisoned most of them because they they weren't as pleasing as the first thirteen. Some were imprisoned for their whole lives. Then ouranus youngest son kronos, primordial god of time, and my great grandfather, lead the titans to take down Ouranus, which they did. Then the Greek gods were born. But kronos ate them. Wait, aiger interrupted. Your grandfather, ate his children? Yes, yes he did. You have weird history arlo, nika said. It's almost impossible to believe. I said I was son of ares, arlo reminded them. So it happened, but back to the story. He ate all, but one, of his children. He didn't eat zeus. The god of wind, the sky, tunder, and lightning, and my grandfather. When he got older, he learned to hate my great grandfather. So like his father did with his, Zeus dethroned kronos. But first, he pretended to be his servant. Then he gave him a potion to make him throw up the gods he ate. And they all came out....don't say anymore, nika asked arlo. Why, I was just. I'm starting to get sick, aiger interrupted. They all came out, all grown up, arlo continued. After hearing that, nika and aiger wanted to throw up. So they ran behind the closest thing to them, and threw up. After five minutes, they came back. Sorry, I just wouldn't feel right if I didn't finish the story. It's fine, just don't do that next time, nika assured him. Thanks, arlo told her. Anyway, after the others were free, they helped Zeus take down kronos. The others were hades, poseidon, hera, and hestia. Together, they defeated the titans and imprisoned them in the prison tartarus, in the underworld. Then Zeus had children with hera. Their children were dionyus, hephaestus, hermes, demeter, athena, and my dad, ares. Then three others joined them. They were apollo, artemis, and aprodite. Together, they are the 13 olympians.

Nika and aiger didn't know what to say. They just sat there, silently. Is something wrong, arlo asked worried. No, it's just that your family, they're beyond weird, aiger said. Oh, arlo said disappointed. But they're also cool, aiger said again. Really, arlo said confused. Yeah, but are you sure your not a god?, aiger asked. I'm only a half-blood, arlo answered. For centuries, the gods have been having half-blood children. They're called, demi-gods. And I'm a demi-god. Or a half-blood. My dad was ares, god of war, but my mom was a normal human. My dad comes by to visit me sometimes, but he's in the army. And I don't see him very often. That must be hard, nika empathized. It is, but I'm used to it arlo assured her. He's in the army to satisfy is battle lust, but he's a good parent, but not a very nice person. Maybe was a bad person back then, but he's a better one now. He stole zeus's lightning bolt a while ago. And as punishment, Zeus killed all of his children. But I was born after that, so he didn't kill me. But then Zeus learned that ares was being controlled by my great grandfather, kronos. So he took pity on ares and gave him more power, and more children. I was the first. And to keep me safe, dad gave me all the powers he has. So I'm his most powerful child. If you hate me, I don't blame you. Why would we hate you, nika told arlo. Huh, arlo responded. You may play cruel jokes, but your still our friend, aiger assured him. Thanks guys, arlo said. Let's try to get some sleep, arlo suggested. Sure, okay, aiger and nika said in sync. Night guys, arlo said. Night, aiger and nika said as the went inside their tents. And tomorrow, it was gonna be a long day, for all of them.
