[JACK'S POV]
Hey there! The name's Jack Kelly! I'm nineteen years old, and I'm bisexual!

The concept of having a "soulmate" is really cool. One person who could love me forever and never leave me? Hell yes!

We learned about soulmates in sixth grade, and little eleven-year-old Jack Kelly was intrigued, let me tell you.
They told us any visible marks put onto our soulmate's body would be put onto ours too, and that's how we'd find them and learn who they are.

I've never tried it out or thought about it, but hey, maybe it'll work.

I grab my painting supplies and start painting on my arm. Since I don't know what else to do, I paint a scene of a sunset.

I wait for it to dry when a message in blue marker starts writing itself onto my arm:
Wow, that looks beautiful.

Since it randomly just showed up, I know right away my soulmate, whoever they were, noticed my arm painting.

I grab a green marker from my box of markers and write:
Thanks. I'm glad you noticed.

I sit down on my couch, watching my arm and waiting for a response.

Then it comes.
Do you paint often?

Yeah, I do. My friends say I do a great job.

I can't believe I'm talking to my soulmate. What's their name? Are they hot?

I decide to write on my arm after that:
Sorry if it's weird to ask, but what's your name?

David, the blue marker replies shortly.

I smile to myself. Ooh, so it's a guy. The name David's a nice name, and suits someone handsome. This David guy better be handsome.

Nice to meet you, Davey! The name's Jack Kelly.

I hope he doesn't mind being called that.

I write really tiny below that:
Is it okay if I call you that?

Davey replies, Nice to meet you too, Jack. Also, yeah, it's fine.

I take notice of Davey's handwriting. It's nice and neat. Just what I'd expect from somebody with the name "David".

I can't wait to meet him.

If this guy's my soulmate, I should start treating him like it.

I get a pink marker from the box and draw a small heart on my thumb. It's tiny, but big enough to notice.
Hopefully I'm not going too far too soon.

A small blue smiley face appears below it. Looks like Davey approves.

I smile to myself as I continue communicating with my soulmate.

[DAVEY'S POV]
I have a soulmate.
I, nineteen-year-old David Jacobs, have a soulmate.
And it's not just any soulmate.
It's a guy.

You see, I've been gay for years now, but I've been in the closet my whole life.
So when I'm paired with a male soulmate, I don't know what to think.

I have two siblings: a sister named Sarah who's three months older than me and a brother named Les who's eleven.
My sister hasn't found her soulmate yet, and my brother's too young to have one.

I look at my left arm, which is covered in washable marker. Green messages are written down my arm, and there's a little pink heart on my thumb.

My soulmate says his name's Jack, and he likes to paint. Above the messages, there's a painting of a sunset. Which looks beautiful, by the way.

I'm running out of room on my arm, so I write:
I don't want my arm to be entirely covered in marker, so maybe you can give me your phone number so we can talk that way?

Jack, who's writing in green, replies, Okay, sure.
Then he writes down his phone number below it.

I type the number Jack wrote into my phone and save it as his contact.

Then I text him.

Me: Hey. It's David.
Jack: Hey.
Jack: So you're my soulmate?
Me: I'm guessing.
Jack: That's cool ♥♥♥

I chuckle to myself. We don't even know each other personally, but he's already acting like we're dating. I mean, we are soulmates, so that makes sense, but still.

Jack: So, uh, do you wanna meet up somewhere?

Is he already asking me on a date? Well, to be fair, that way we can meet and bond at the same time.

Me: Sure, where do you want to go?
Me: And also, you live in Manhattan like I do, right?
Jack: Yeah, I do. And for that, we could go to that one deli.
Me: Oh, you mean Jacobi's Deli?
Jack: Yeah, there.
Me: Okay, I'll see you there.
Jack: I can't wait to meet you, Davey.
Jack: Love you! ♥♥♥

I chuckle again. I'm not used to people communicating with me that way.

Me: I love you too, Jack.

I close out of my messages to call Sarah to freak out just as Jack texts me again.

Jack: Aww, you do?

Am I allowed to be in love with someone I haven't even met in person?
Normally, that would be crazy, but since Jack's my soulmate, I won't stop myself.

Me: Yeah, I do.

Now I can call Sarah to freak out. I tap on Sarah's contact and call her.
"Sarah!"

"Hello to you too, David," she replies.

"Something amazing just happened to me," I tell her.

"Oh yeah? What's that?"

I take a deep breath.
"I talked to my soulmate for the first time today. And he asked me on a date..."

Sarah gasps.
"That's... amazing! What's his name???"

"Jack."
"Jack? As in Jack Kelly?"

"Yeah," I say.
"You know him, Sarah?"

"Mm-hmm," Sarah replies.
"We met up on a trip once."

I chuckle.
"Well, that's no fair. Anyway, I gotta go on this date now, I guess."

"Okay, David! Tell me how it went!"

I nod.
"Okay, bye."

I hang up on Sarah and sigh deeply.
I have a boyfriend, and I haven't even met him yet...

This is going to be interesting...
