Moments after Krissa turns on her heel and leaves a young man approaches me from one of the visiter docks.

"Lady Debra?"

I look over at the man, his dusty blonde hair and hazel eyes, while they don't match well, capture my attention immediately.

"Yes?"

He holds out his hand to shake.

"Musaria Hale, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance"

I realise that this is my brother-in-law so I shake his hand.

"The pleasure is mine, does Maximum know that you are in town?"

The shake of his head gives me the general idea.

"I have some news regarding our good friends, the royals of Palmako"

I smirk at the young man.

"We already know about the armarda"

Musaria is speechless beyond doubt.

"Should I relay the plans to them?"

I shake my head.

"That's Maximum's job, and anyway, the queen is not telling me anything"

He narrows his eyes at me.

"Are you telling me that you failed the only job you have?"

I take a deep, angry breath.

"No, I am saying that your employees who kidnapped the queen six months ago did a terrible job and she barely trusts anyone"

Musaria breathing becomes heavy as a flash of anger crosses his eyes.

"God women! If I could..."

"Don't finnish that sentance, brother"

Both of us look up in surprise as Maximum steps out of the shadows, guilt settles of Musaria's face.

"Brother, I... you know I didn't mean anything"

I glare at my brother-in-law then turn to smile sweetly at my husband.

"Maximum honey, I didn't realise you got the message"

Maximum gives a me a quick peck on the lips before he turns back to Musaria.

"I will relay the queen's plans, or at least what we know, Musaria, you can tell Debby here the amount of boats there are and Debby, you go tell the queen, we need more imformation before we can do anything"

Both of us nod our heads before I tell him all of the queen's plans that I am privy to. Afterward, when my husband is busy talking to one of the Palmako princes, Musaria and I step off to the side to discuss boats.

"...four long boats with catapults, oil and other flammable liquids stored on most of ythe boats. I think that's all"

I nod as I write all this down in a notebook.

"Ok, I'll go talk to the queen"

He nods but as I walk off he calls out.

"Debby, wait!"

I turn back to him, annoyed out of my mind, only my husband can call me that.

"Don't mess this up Debra, we don't need a repeat of last time"

I give him an unlady like growl before spinning on my heels and stalking off.

...

By the time I reach the stone watch tower that Krissa was headed to, I am regrettably sweaty and out of breath. I step through the low door way and look at the scene that surrounds me. The only way to describe it was choas, organised but absolute chaos. Krissa was up next to the floor to ceiling map of the kingdom's defendable walls. A group of ten guards surrounding her, listening to her every word. Fifteen guards sit by one of the windows making extra arrows and another fifteen are preparing the fire tips, ready for them to be launched by the guards and ignited by magical fire from someone with the power. Everyone else milled around, oiling armour and shining boots.

When I stepped up towards Krissa and the group of ten guards, they fall silent. It's uncomfortable for a moment.

"I said wait for me at the docks"

I look down, feigning embarrassment.

"You might want to hear what I need to say"

She looks at me in confusion as does everyone else in the room.

"Claus, Seila, they already reported back"

She nods her head in understanding.

"Ok, shoot"

"There are around 120 boats, four are long boats with catapults and the rest are for archers and soldiers"

Some of the guards let out low whistles and one steps forward.

"Our watch tower is to small to defend against them."

"Captain Withers, we will stick to the plan and in the off chance that we don't succeed then, and only then will we enact the back up plan."

Everyone nods even though the captain looks ready to argue back.

"Right, lets go people, we have an hour max"

Everyone dissappears to their respective areas and I look around confused. Nobody stays behind to inform me of the plans. I have failed again.

...

My walk back to my husband and brother-in-law was depressing as I already knew what was going to happen. I dreaded the disappointment that I will be able to see in Maximum's eyes. The anger in Musaria's reddened face would reflect off the water and I would never forget it just as I never forgot from the last three times that I had failed them. Every single time we couldn't pull off the job it was always my fault.

It was my fault that we were degraded to this small invasion task and it will be my fault when we never get a job again because every time I mess up it reflects on all of us not just me.

My task this time was to befriend the queen and find out her agenda, how she thinks and how she reacts to war. And so far I haven't found much.

This job will be the end of us.
