This story features a gender neutral reader(they/them pronouns so anyone can read regardless of gender), possible LGBTQ+ relationships, blood, possible gore, bulling, abuse, potentially triggering topics, etc. Just a warning before you open the story, and I'll post this on the first chapter as well.
(Y/N) drops their bag on the floor after getting home from a long day at work. Knowing they have school in the morning, they groan and change into pajamas, opting to shower in the morning before they leave. Working a full-time job along side school was difficult, especially for a high schooler living alone.
They drop themselves into bed, immediately rolling up in the covers and passing out, a strange feeling looming over them.
The next morning goes as any other; Slamming on the alarm clock's snooze button(that was your phone dammit), rolling out of bed(angrily of course), forcing themself into the shower, not wanting to get out of the shower, getting out of the shower, getting dressed, eating, and realizing they're late. They run out of the house with their backpack in hand, only to realize they aren't wearing shoes. Here comes running back in, putting shoes on, and leaving to school in a sprint out of the house.
(Y/N) arrives in their classroom, breathing heavily from the running nearly a mile from their house.
"Nice of you to join us," the teacher says sarcastically. "What's your name?" She pulls out a clipboard with her attendance sheet.
"(Y/....N) ...(L/N)," they say, still panting.
"Don't be late next time. Take a seat." She looks away from (Y/N) dismissively. "Now, as I was saying..," her words fade into unintelligible nonsense in (Y/N)'s head as they go to take a seat.
They take a seat in the only one open in the middle of the room. The girl next to them looks over to smile and wave.
She has brown hair tied into a ponytail, chocolate brown eyes, pale skin, and freckles painting her face. She's wearing a loose pale yellow knee length dress with a pink bow at the neckline.
I wave back, giving her a tired half smile. She seems happy with the gesture and turns back to the teacher.
After one long boring class explaining the rules of the school, (Y/N) continues with their classes up until lunch. They pull lunch out of their bag and go to sit on their own. They stayed on that plan until the girl from their homeroom ran over to them.
"Hey!! You!!" She sits next to (Y/N), tray in hand and smiles.
"Oh hey uh... I'm sorry, I never got your name," they say, rubbing the back of their head and smiling nervously.
"Oh, it's okay! I'm Laura! You are?"
"(Y/N). What's up?"
"I was just-"
A girl walks up and smacks Laura's tray to the floor, stepping on it to add insult to injury.
The girl has tan skin, middle-split waist length brown hair, and blue eyes. She's really pretty, and seems to know it. She's wearing a form fitting pale yellow shirt with a light pink skirt. She has white knee-length socks with a pink stripe going through the top along with black flats.
"Hey! What'd you to that for?!" (Y/N) yells, standing to be face to face with the girl. Laura slumps down, staring at her lunch in pain.
"Tch," she says before walking away. I just sit back down and wrap my arm around Laura in an attempt to comfort her.
"Hey... you can have some of my lunch if you'd like. I have chicken noodle soup, garlic bread, and crackers."
She looks up with a small smile and nods. We spend the rest of lunch talking and getting to know each other. Little did they know that a dangerous kid had taken in interest to them, and a disliking to their bully...
