Chapter 6
Choi Hana
I gulped down the cold water, and keep my head down not paying attention to their conversation. I don't have any choice but to say yes, right?
Like god sake, My father's company fate is on me, my decision will affect everything. The burden on my shoulder becomes heavier and heavier as time past by. Even though I haven't voiced out my answer yet, my mother and Madam Kim are discussing the marriage plans already.
I don't understand a single thing, 29 minutes ago I'm single and now I'm engaged to my ex-boyfriend. My ex-boyfriend may I repeat?
"Im sorry, but I can't do this. There must be another way right?", I blurted out,
"Hana, please don't do this.", Mother said with a pleading face, I need to find an excuse for this arranged marriage thing. I need to think of another way out.
"What is the problem sweetheart? Both of you are a very sweet couple once," Madam Kim grinned,
"Were", Suho and I both said at the same time, as I meet his eyes for the second time today.
"Mom, we broke up 5 years ago", Suho who had been silenced throughout this conversation speaks up.
The seniors remained silent, sipping their drinks, and looking at us, waiting for one of us to speak out.
"I can help with our family business dad, I'm just signed up with this huge project in Korea. It will hold our company back for a few months and we might be able to settle this financial problem.", I sighed, might. How am I supposed to convince them by using the word might.
A minute of silence before my father speaks up, "We don't want to involve both of you in any way, we did our best to find another solution and it takes us a very long time to settle down with this agreement."
"Please Hana, do me a favor. Make me proud.", my father whispered into my ears, his statement breaks me. I lifted my eyes and look at him, he looks tired, old, and hopeless. What have I done?
I'm such an ungrateful and selfish daughter to my family. I looked down on my lap, a single tear dropped leaving a stain on my dress. This is the only way to make my father proud of me, the only way to pay him back for being such a great father and not being able to work for the family business.
"Okay.", I whispered.
"Suho, how about you?", I heard Madam Kim asked, "Okay", he muttered.
I may have been mistaken, but I think I just heard my mother and Madam Kim squealed in joy. "Great!", Madam Kim shouted, "Let's start planning this wedding out"
"I have been waiting for this moment for years already, Omo I cannot-", My mother stopped and cleared her throat as she saw our 'still depressed' face looking at her in despair.
"Okay, Let's get this thing down", I heard my father proposed.
"We think it is the best if your marriage is held in November this year, this will give both of you plenty of time to lose that tension!", Madam Kim clapped once, which causes all of us to startled.
"and I managed to convince your father to let you stay with Suho this two months of your marriage preparations!", my mother announced happily, as my father sighed.
My mind is screaming, I want to protest but I can't bare receiving another disappointment reaction from them. I stole a glance at Suho, his eyes were fixed to his glass of wine, looking so lost. Just like me, lost.
___
Here I am, sitting on the edge of my bed. A week had passed by quickly, I have spent most of my time crying, trying to accept the fact that I am engaged to my ex-boyfriend. The person that I hate the most, running away from my past, avoiding to bump into him. But fate bought us back together with a wedding tagging along behind us. We don't really talk to each other much after dinner, we just went back home separately.
