The Protector of the Covenant: Volume Two

Chapter 31

The leader of the witch hunters exclaimed, "Well, well, well. We finally have all you witches in one room! And best of all, there's food to eat as we kill every last one of you. It's a witch hunter's dream come true! I say we go table by table, saving Luna for last because you save the best for last, right?". Luna was trembling as David held onto her tightly, trying his best to comfort her. Venus had mentally checked out, her fear had paralyzed her and she was unable to think. The witch hunters had an array of weapons they were using, ranging from guns to a flamethrower to a sword to a bow and arrow. Two whole tables of witches had been murdered and all anyone else could do was watch in anguish.

Tate's family were all watching in shock, they felt safe because they weren't witches but worried they would somehow get caught in the crossfire. Some of them began to resent Stephanie because the witch hunters were there for her and her family. Tate tried to attack the witch hunters with nothing but his own fists and legs. Alas, he failed and was flung across the room. Stephanie exclaimed, "Tate! Tate! My goodness!" and started running towards him. Tate reassured her, "I'm alright, I'm alright. My back hurts but I can walk. Don't worry.". The newlyweds stayed in their spot, somehow hoping the witch hunters wouldn't see them.

Venus finally snapped out of her daze and knew she had to think fast about what they could do, she didn't want any more witches dying. She used a spell so only her fellow witches could hear her planning. She decided, "Okay, we need to use a spell against them. If we all do a spell together it'll be extra powerful.". Luna replied, "Yeah but what spell did you have in mind?". Violet responded, "I think I know of a good one. But we will need supplies. It's called the bones of anger revenge hex. One of you will have to go to the kitchen and grab chicken bones, we'll need also need a hammer, broom and cloth bag.". Luna darted across the room to where the flower girls were so she could grab the chicken bones they left from their kiddie meal. Venus stole one of the witch hunters hammers when they weren't looking. Audrey, another one of the witches, volunteered her broomstick. Violet had a cloth bag they could use and Stephanie grabbed one of her wedding bells. The witches were ready to perform their spell.

The witches had gathered in a circle and the witch hunters noticed this. They exclaimed, "Wow, so you guys want to make it easy for us! You got all lined up so we could just kill everyone at once! Thank you very much!". The witch hunters began to shoot at the circle so the witches had to duck and dodge the bullets. Violet's age meant she wasn't as quick as the others and when one of the witch hunters shot a bullet at her she fell to the ground. All the witches exclaimed with tears falling down their eyes: "Violet!" and rushed to her. She was losing a lot of blood and unable to get up. Violet managed to use the last bit of strength she had to say, "Oh, please don't fuss over me. Go, go, fight them. Don't waste your tears on this old lady.". There was so much more the witches wanted to say to the woman that had lead them through the hardest times of their lives but with the sound of another gunshot around them they remembered they didn't have time to grieve.

Venus knew she could manage to pull off a protection spell for a short period of time while they did the bones of anger revenge hex. All the witches chanted together, ""With these bones I now do crush!" and took turns using the hammer to crush the chicken bones. The anger they felt towards the witch hunters for killing Violet helped them to crush the bones. Luna let out a yell and thought, "I hate these people! I hate these people! They killed Sybil, they killed Violet! They hurt my sister! They ruined my aunt's perfect day!". Venus was equally angry, she thought to herself: "I can't believe how much destruction this group of people have caused. How many lives they've ended, ruined. They don't even know anything about witches, just stereotypes they've been raised to believe are true. Was what Luna did at the prom bad? Yes, but she wasn't even in control of the situation there. To kill off a whole group of people because of one event, it's just imaginable!". The witch hunters continued to try and get through the protection spell but they failed, David was happy to see Luna finally get a lucky break.

The next part of the spell was the sweeping of the chicken bone dust and then they had to put it in the cloth bag. They then had to sprinkle the dust and remains of the bones around where the witch hunters were standing. Luna rang the bell three times and all the witches chanted: "I call upon the Ancient Ones from the great abyss to do my bidding I invoke Cuthalu, God of Anger and the creatures of the underworld hear me now.". They then continued to chant: "Bones of anger, bones to dust. Full of fury, revenge is just. I scatter these bones, these bones of rage. Take thine enemy, bring them pain. I see thine enemy before me now. I bind them, crush them, bring them down. With these bones I now do crush. Make thine enemy turn to dust, torment, fire, out of control. With this hex I curse your soul. So mote it be!". Suddenly one by one the witch hunters turned to fire and then to dust.

The events everyone who had attended the wedding had just gone through took a couple of minutes to register. Luna rushed to David and the couple shared an embrace, they both had tears in their eyes as they recalled how close they had been to death. After Tate and Stephanie kissed, the bride joked to everyone: "Well, obviously this isn't the wedding reception I had planned." but no one laughed. Tate's family had already rushed out of there. Until that night for most of them the most scary thing they had gone through was going downtown in broad daylight. Venus was standing over Violet's dead body, Violet had been a motherly figure for her so losing her was devastating. She was unable to move on, even by just walking away from the body.

When the owners of the reception hall came in they were obviously concerned as they saw the blood stains, dead body, piles of ash and stack of weapons. Stephanie bluffed, "We were all here having a good time when these psychopaths showed up and tried to kill us. They tried to burn us, hence the ash and all the weapons were theirs. They did kill a few of our guests too and that's why there's all this blood here. They ran out of here now.". The reception hall owners believed Stephanie's story and everyone left for home, even Venus left Violet's dead body to go back to Sweetnum Valley.
