The Past's Pawn

I wish today was yesterday

I never wanted it to end

I so badly wanted to stay

When nighttime came I decided to pretend

I began to relive the moment

At first time stood still

Our laughter continued to be sent

Traveling around the air until

We had to stop to inhale

Our smiles continued to shine

The conversations began to sail

Making our hearts intertwine

Our friendship becoming even stronger

Till the moment came to say goodbye

I wished the daytime was longer

As you each departed I let out a sigh

I found myself once again to where I began

Living in the present but lost in the past

That is until my mind was set on a plan

I decided to live for today at last

Walking away from the replay button now

Allows me to press the play button instead

Making myself feel very prow

Since I can walk forward without feeling dread

I comprehend now that yesterday has bygone

It's part of the past now, which should stay behind

I am no longer the past's pawn

Because I can now accept in my mind

That life is made with memories
