Sleep can be so bliss
With a tender kiss
It can send you
Someplace new
Where the grass is always greener
The air itself is more cleaner
And the sun is always gleaming
But once you see you are dreaming
The Light starts to cast its shadow
Darkness begins to spread and grow
It kills off not only the land
Your mind is now seen in quicksand
Quickly being consumed out of sight
Preventing you from taking flight
Murderous shadows come near
Killing the thoughts you hold dear
You grow cold and numb
Heart's become a drum
Clammy hands and sweaty forehead
Thoughts are filled with increasing dread
And at last
It has past
Your eyes fling open wide
Waiting for the fear to subside
Heavy breathing, short and quick
Don't fall into your nightmare's trick
You are safely home
Let your frantic eyes roam
And see that you've awoken
Make your gentle count to ten
Then sigh in relief
For your sly dream thief
Can no longer be seen
Don't let it intervene
With your peaceful night's sleep
