-RIVER-

The familiar mildew stench knocked me on my ass as I stepped into my dad's main building. This is the place he did all his business, the place he tortured people and the place he ruined my life.

My hands shake as I pass by the blood stained floor, the memories washing over me in a tidal wave.

Don't show emotion.

Keep it together River.

The gun shot echoing in the room, my mom's blood curdling scream replay in my head.

I clench my fists at my sides and snap my eyes closed as I take a deep breath and continue through the wretched stone room.

The closer I get to my father the more whispers I hear. The fact that I'm even in this building says something. I haven't been here in almost two years.

After my mom had her throat slit right in front of me I haven't been able to come back. I couldn't go back to the place she was brutally murdered.

"Promise me something baby" she whimpers as the silver of the knife against her throat glistens in the light, taunting me.

I strain against the ropes on my wrist as blood drips from my nose. The daunting laugh echoing through the bare walls.

"Promise me you'll get out of this River. Get out of this life. Don't become like your father" 

I grunt as I desperately try to get away from my restraints. To get away from him.

"Promise me baby" my mother cries.

"I-I Promise mamma"

Tears wet her eyes as she reaches out and places her delicate hand on my knee.

"I love you Ri-"

She gurgles as blood spirts out of her neck. Her eyes roll back as her body becomes limp and she collapses onto the ground.

"Mamma!" I scream as I watch blood drain out of her body surrounding her in a crimson pool.

The wedding band on her finger shines in the light as it gets tainted by her blood.

Tears slip out of my eyes as my arms are freed from the burning sensation caused by the rope and I collapse to my knees.

"I promise Mamma" I sob.

A blow lands against the side of my face, causing my head to snap to the side.

"You're weak. It's your fault she died. This is what happens when you are stupid enough to get attached" my dad sneers as he punches me in the gut.

"You are such a fucking embarrassment. You need to earn your keep. Get yourself cleaned up and come see me for your next job" my dad spits as he tosses a handkerchief at my face.

"fottutamente inutile" (fucking worthless) he mumbles as he stalks off to his office, leaving me alone with the lifeless body of my mother.

I open my eyes and blink away the wetness that had started to form. This really wasn't the place to cry, especially not in front of my dad.

Louis, one of the guys higher up in the gang, steps out of my dad's office with a evil smirk on his face. When he sees me the smirk only deepens.

"Coming to beg daddy for forgiveness?" Louis sneers.

"Fuck off" I growl in return.

"Oh watch out everyone asshole alert" Louis calls to the other members lulling around as he leans against the wall behind him.
