Chapter 16 - Unwavering Courage

The fireballs fly toward Rouji as he charged unstoppably toward Ayaka. Without delay, he swings his sword in a vertical position around his body that left traces of white-flame. In this desperate move, Rouji was bombarded by the fireballs.

"Hahaha! You are incenerated. No one could survive that." Ayaka laughs.

The smoke slowly clears out and Rouji stood unscathed. White flame surrounded Rouji's body in a circular motion.

"I-Impossible! That.. flame shield.. how did you.." she slowly shifts her attention toward Katsune. "So it was you.."

Katsune, with her three tails drawn out, formed the white flame shield around Rouji.

"Like they say, fight fire with fire. Hehe." Rouji smiles. "It's a good thing that Katsune told me about this at the train." he starts running again.

"Why you.."

Ayaka launches more red fireballs at Rouji but the shield persists and protects Rouji from harm as Katsune concentrates on the shield. He finally reaches her and jumps in the air and attempts to slash down on her. In the nick of time, Ayaka was able to jump out of the way and retaliates with a breath of blue flame. Rouji braces for impact and the shield breaks out.

Ah.. the shield came off. Looks like it couldn't withstand the pressure of that blue flame.. Rouji thought as he stood.

He continued charging Ayaka for another attack right after. Not only was the young female mage a skilled fire caster but was also agile in terms of dodging and mobility. Rouji had a hard time trying to hit her and she launches a huge blue fireball at him. Rouji tried to block it with his white-flame sword but in result, was blown away but was unharmed.

"You impudent whelp!" she screams.

"Haha. Can't take it anymore?" he smiles with confidence.

"You haven't seen anything yet."

Ayaka then sets the foot of the stake on fire. The stake was just made of wood and was easily flammable. In a few minutes, Rumiha could be burned with it.

"No! Leave Rumiha out of this!" he shouts in anger.

"I'm sorry but I don't remember reading any rule book." she smiles evilly.

"Katsune! Put out the fire and take her!" Rouji yelled at Katsune.

"Got it!" she started running to Rumiha.

"Oh no you don't."

Ayaka draws out a card and throws it at the burning stake. She sets it on fire and what happened next frightened out Katsune. A flame golem was summoned in front of her and smashed down on her but she was able to dodge the attack and only having a minor scratch on her arm.

"You! You bitch!" Rouji shouts in anger and charges at Ayaka. "I'll make you pay!!" he yelled.

As soon as Rouji got close enough, he swings his sword sideways and launches three fox-fires at her.

W-What the.. how was he able to do this?! Ayaka thought as the fires flied toward her.

She wasn't able to react on time as she wasn't expecting such an attack and was hit by the fires. As a follow up attack, Rouji slashes down on her but she was able to roll out of the way and was hit on her lower right arm only and caused a bleed.

"Ahh!" she quickly covers her wound with her other hand as she shouts in pain.

When Rouji was about to attack her again, he noticed that Katsune was being aggravated by the huge golem that she was fighting.
