The next days, Lana and Mary-Eunice stayed at a classy hotel. The reporter had saved some money for this occasion, she had to make the most of it. She pampered the nun, and tried to progressively help her overcome this trauma. Since she was feeling safe with the brunette, it was easier for Mary-Eunice to get back to normal, even though she would keep these scars forever. Physical scars... but also mental ones. She would, for example, start panicking at the sight of the room's bathtub, of fear any item working with electricity. Every time she would hear Lana swear, or get worked up, she would instantly hide, and start apologizing over and over again, thinking it always was her fault -it wasn't, the reporter was just bothered by the smoking ban in the room, and often argued with the hotel staff about it. During Mary's fearful moments, Lana usually sat next to her and comforted her, until she could hug the blonde, and finally let her relax in her arms. Sometimes, the former nun would even fall asleep in her embrace.
But as the weeks were flying by, Mary-Eunice's attacks were decreasing in number. Lana even decided to take her to the movies, since she hadn't shown any fear of the dark for a few weeks. They chose Persona, by Ingmar Bergman. But the beginning of the film was already violent, and the blonde hid her face in the crook of the older girl's neck, shivering. Lana gently stroked her shoulders, trying not to get distracted by Mary's hot breath against her skin. When had she become this way, sensitive to each and every one of her actions ? She was afraid that Isabelle's "accusations" could be true. She was not crushing on her. She couldn't. But it seemed more and more accurate with each movement of the blonde she found cute, or even sexy, sometimes.
Mary-Eunice had finally gotten her attention focused back on the movie. There was tension between the two main protagonists, Elisabeth and Anna, it was subtle, but even the blonde could tell. What she couldn't figure out, was why was her belly this twisted, just with exchanged glances between them. Why was she reacting to lesbian sexual tension ? She already had noticed that in her behaviour, when she was younger, and one of the most hated girls of the school, a lesbian, was trying to flirt with her. She was repulsed by her advances, but deep down, something was attracting her. "It's just my hormones. A natural, chemical reaction of my body." she thought, trying to reassure herself.
"Everything alright ?" Lana whispered to her ear, making her heart start to rush. The blonde had also noticed these... reactions, to the reporter's touch, or just her presence. They were similar to the ones she had because of the movie, and she didn't know how to interpret that.
"Yeah, I'm good... it's just... you know... the atmosphere is really odd..." she confessed, slightly leaning back, unwilling to show how weird the brunette made her feel. "And it's really... psychologic. Interesting, but it needs all your attention, if you want to understand everything." She explained.
"I'm feeling the same way." The older girl smiled. "Have you ever watched any movie by him, before ?" The blonde shook her head, keeping her eyes on the screen as she was answering.
"No, never. I've never been much of a movie fan, you know... but I like watching some, from time to time." She shrugged, grinning.
"That's too bad... movies can be a huge source of culture." The reporter stated.
"I prefer to read books, actually." Mary-Eunice replied, winking. "It's quiet, and, contrary to a movie that you would watch here, you can take a break from it. I don't think you'd leave the room, now, would you ?"
"You're right, I wouldn't. Because I couldn't leave you here, all alone in the dark..." Lana tried to scare her, smirking a little.
"Hey ! That's not fair, don't do that !" Mary giggled. An older man, one row behind, shushed them, and that made the two girls laugh even louder.
They finally got excluded from the movie theatre, and burst into laughter as soon as the door had been closed behind them. They couldn't help it. It was relieving, and it also was the first time that Lana was spotting Mary-Eunice laughing this hard, since their first encounter. She felt her heart melt at the sight, but didn't show any sign of it, and kept laughing with the blonde for a while.
When they had calmed themselves down, the two girls got in Lana's -which was actually Wendy's- car, and the reporter drove them back to the hotel. While the former nun was showering, the brunette came up with an innovative idea, which she exposed to her friend as soon as she got out of the bathroom.
"Tonight, I'm going to take you out for dinner !" She announced, proud of her idea.
"Why don't you just eat me, for dinner, Lana ?" Mary-Eunice blurted out, not really realizing what she had just said.
"What... what did you say, Mary ?" Lana was dumbstruck by the younger girl's audacity. The blonde was burning red, and looking at her feet.
"I... I don't know why I said that, Lana... it... it didn't feel like me at all..." she confessed, tears coming up her eyes.
"Hey." The reporter hugged her, stroking her blonde locks. "It's okay, really. Do you think that maybe... there could be... some of Satan... remaining, in you ? That could explain this sudden switch..." she tried to reassure her, she knew the former nun wasn't speaking for herself.
"I don't know... but I think we could try and learn more about it at the library. Is it still open ?" She questioned.
"There's only one way to figure it out." Lana winked. "Get dressed, we're going to have a study night ! I'll take you to the restaurant another time." She smiled, and took some clean clothes from the cupboard, before going into the bathroom, so as to shower.
