"I can't find anything..." Mary-Eunice sighed in despair.
They had been at the town's library for three hours now, looking for any book that could lead them to "exorcisms' side effects". The blonde girl was starting to feel like giving up, but Lana was more determined than ever. She needed to find the answers which would help them understand.
"Luckily, the library is open all night, we'll not be obliged to quit our researches until tomorrow." The brunette answered, rummaging through the bookshelves.
"Are you really planning on staying here until we find that book ?" The blonde asked.
"Hell yeah, I am !" Lana was full of energy and Mary-Eunice didn't want to ruin her mood, so she didn't answer anything.
They kept looking for "the book" for an hour. Lana was almost falling asleep on the shelves, and Mary had started reading a book about a girl falling in love with a demon, and it was kind of erotic. She was reading it secretly, while the brunette wasn't looking, but her face, which was as red as a tomato, was saying it all. She was sometimes letting out tiny shocked gasps, when one of the characters was talking dirty, or when a plot twist was happening.
"Is this the book you're looking for ?" Lana was startled by a familiar voice. She bumped her head on the shelf, and muffled a groan. She faced the person who just talked to her, and discovered a changed Sister Jude. Her hair was let down, her blonde locks gracefully falling on her shoulders. She was handing the brunette a book, which looked old, but still in good shape.
"Oh... y-yes it is..." Lana took the book carefully, and glanced at the older woman. "What are you doing here ?" She inquired, surprised.
"I could ask you the same question. You should be in France, with Grace and Shelley, right now. But I saw what, or shall I say who, brought you back here." She looked at Mary-Eunice, captivated by her book, her mouth agape, looking like a child. The reporter chuckled, guessing she was probably reading a smutty part of the novel.
"Well, I made the right decision, coming back. Did you know what they were doing to her, at Briarcliff ?" She asked, with suspicion in her voice.
"What are you talking about ? I designed her as the new leader of the place, before quitting." Jude didn't understand.
"Well, she apparently gave the lead to Sister Linda, who treated her horribly. She was fucking tortured, there ! I came at the right moment, and rescued her. You should go and talk to her, she has been asking a lot about how you were doing, lately." The reporter advised, smiling a little. "Thank you for the book, though, but how did you know that we needed it ?"
"I just assumed so, since you were looking through the shelf I found it on." The former nun shrugged. "Why are you looking for a book about exorcisms, by the way ?"
"We were just... wondering, if there could be any remainings of the Devil's behaviour, in her... she acted quite strangely, earlier..." Lana sighed.
"Strange... coming for Mary-Eunice, or from anyone ?" Jude asked.
"What do you mean ?" The brunette didn't understand.
"Is this behaviour strange because she's Mary-Eunice, or would it be strange on anybody else as well ?"
"Well, it wouldn't have been strange, coming from that Wendy bitch..." Lana sighed.
"She flirted with you ?" Jude didn't seem really shocked. "Well, maybe something helped her dare to do that, but I don't think that Satan has anything to do with her actions. Tease her, you'll see how she reacts." The former nun walked away with a wry smile, allowing doubt to linger.
"So... this has nothing to do with her exorcism, huh..." the brunette thought, trying to figure out what Jude meant. She stole a glance at Mary-Eunice, who was absorbed in her book, her bottom lip caught between her teeth. She walked towards her, and sweetly placed her hand on her shoulder. The blonde startled so violently she fell off her chair, making Lana burst out into laughter.
"Help me get up, instead of laughing at me !" Mary pouted. The older woman continued giggling, holding her hand out for the former nun to catch. The blonde pulled hard, and Lana fell onto her, her face only inches away from the younger girl's. "Serves you ri-..." she wanted to taunt her, but the sight of Lana's plump, red lips distracted her. The brunette slightly furrowed her eyebrows, guessing what Mary's ocean eyes were glued to. She blushed, and got back up, helping her as well. There was now an awkward silence in the library. The reporter headed towards the exit, and Mary-Eunice followed her obediently, not making a sound.
The ride back to the hotel was quiet, and uncomfortable for both Lana and Mary-Eunice. The brunette kept her eyes on the road and the younger girl stared at her feet all time long. They both regretted not to have filled this space between their lips, just a few minutes before, but they just couldn't admit it to themselves. Mary, because it was against everything she had been raised for, and Lana, because she felt like she was corrupting her blonde friend.
They needed to work their issues out, and fast.
