Chapter 5: A talk on the roof

Bobble and Goggles were in the classroom trying to explain what happened to Prince but he wouldn't listen. The two soon sat down with Bobble asking 'Are you sure this is okay? I mean tagging along to school and everything.' 'Well yeah.' 'That psycho dude who tried to kill you yesterday just transferred to our class. You're sorta risking your life being here.' 'Actually, I think the school is the safest place for me. Besides, Specs is here.' That's when Goggles jumped in on the conversation. 'Specs is in a different class that's on the other side of the school.' 'Don't worry.' They both heard Specs say. 'I can hear all of you perfectly.' 'He's not that far. So my telepathy can still reach him.' 'Oh uh, hi Specs.' Goggles said. 'I promise I'll keep a close watch over you. Besides, he doesn't seem like the type to attack you in public.' Specs replied. 'If you say so...' Bobble said. Rider then walked into the classroom as if on cue. 'Speak of the devil.' Goggles had a serious look thinking back to last night again. Rider looked over at him, not caring who noticed.

"That transfer student, y'know the new guy in class, is he the same as you? A magical squid." Bobble asked Specs. "He is. There's no doubt. And he's a very powerful one too." Specs said as he pulled his soul gem back towards him. "Then he's a good guy, I mean if he fights witches and stuff like you right? Then why would he do something like attack Goggles." "It was me he was after. I think he was trying to keep me from making a contact with a new magical squid." Kyubey explained as he got up from a laying down position. "Yeah but, if your fighting the same enemy wouldn't it be better if there were more of us?" "No, not necessarily. It's more common for magical squids to fight each other." "Really, how come?" Goggles asked. "When you defeat a witch you acquire certain rewards. That's why, depending on the situation, magical squids will fight and the winner gets the reward." Specs explained in a very serious tone of voice. "So the reason why the weird transfer student was staring at Goggles yesterday was because he knew Kyubey was trying to contact him?" "Most likely, yes." Specs said while turning his soul gem back into a ring.

Goggles snapped out of it but still kept the serious look as Rider kept staring. 'Don't worry Goggles. If he steps out of line or tries anything funny, I'll punch his light out. Besides, Specs' got our back. ' 'That's right. I'm here so everything will be fine. Regardless of Bobble and her punches.' 'What do you mean regardless?!' Bobble yelled at Specs. Class started a few minutes later with the teacher saying "Anyway, the form of the verb we're talking about is called the active voice. For the ones taking notes, that's when the subject of the sentence is doing something to the object." Goggles looked over at Rider and then Bobble to see that she was asleep. The teacher continued "Now, the flip side of that is the passive verse. That's when the subject of the sentence is having something done to it by the object." Goggles then looked down at Kyubey who was also asleep. He smiled then continued with doodling in his notebook. "Take the sentence 'He likes me'. And since he is the one doing something active..." The teacher continued as Goggles continued drawing. He seemed to be drawing himself in what he thinks his magical squid outfit might look like. It was a small dress with ruffles under the bottom part and a heart-shaped hole on the back. He smiled and then continued again.

It was now lunchtime and Goggles and Bobble were on the rooftop. "Here," Goggles said as he gave Kyubey some of his food who happily ate it. "Hey Goggles, you have any luck figuring out what you're gonna wish for?" Bobble asked while looking at the sky. "No, how about you?" "I don't have a clue, I'm totally stumped. I thought it so much that my brain is starting to hurt. I mean, there's a bunch of stuff I wanna have or do but maybe it's the risk your life part. Maybe that's holding me back. Well, nothing I want is worth that much, that's for sure." The female squid said while walking towards the fence that was on the roof. "That's so odd. Most people accept my offer right away." Kyubey said. "I guess we don't know any better, do we?" "Really, you think so?" Goggles said a little quiet. "Yep, we're blissfully ignorant. Just think about it for a sec, have you ever wanted something so bad that you'd trade your life for it? There's a ton of people out there who have a lot less than we have who'd jump at a chance like this..." Bobble said while her voice kept getting quieter with every word. She then tightened her grip on the fence. "You see, we can't figure out what to wish for 'cause we don't know what it's like to want something like that. We're blissfully ignorant to any kind of suffering." She continued as she thought about Headphones who was in the hospital. "Why us? Why did we get this chance?" Bobble asked herself as she turned around. "It's not fair, is it? I get to have a wish but Y'know there are people out there who deserve it a lot more." "Bobble..." The male squid said quietly after listening to Bobble say some really emotional stuff.

The wind then blew very hard which caused the two to notice Rider was up there with them. He started walking towards them which caused Bobble to walk over to Goggles and put her arm in front of him. 'It's okay.' Specs told them as he was near them holding his soul gem which the yellow-green squid noticed. He stopped right in front of them. "Back for more huh," Bobble said in a protective tone. "No, I didn't come to fight." Rider said before looking at Kyubey. "I wanted to kill it before it made contact with Goggles Kaname. It's too late for that now." He then looked up and to the side. "Well, now what? Are you going to become a magical squid?" Goggles started to stumble over his words as Bobble said "Yeah right. Like it's any of your business." "I warned you, remember?" "Yes." "Very well then. I hope my warnings not in vain, goodbye." The yellow-green squid finished and started walking away. "Rider...Um...wait! I would like to know what you wished for when you became a magical squid." Goggles said. All Rider did was turn around, look at Goggles, then leave. Specs continued to watch as he left the roof.
