“I overheard you talking to Trent Blake,” Megan Woods offered a kind smile as she approached Roxy.

Megan wore a white cable knit sweater with a black hash-tag on the front and black stripes on each arm. Her bottoms were curvy slim bootcut worn-out blue jeans, with scatter rips along the sides. Her hair was long and wavy, auburn color, that shaped her oval face.

“Forget about him; Trent’s a jerk to everyone,” Megan offered her hand out, “I’m Megan Woods.” She shifted her books to one arm.

“Roxy,” Roxy clasped her hand, shaking it.

“I can show you to the front office, if you want,” Megan offered in a sweet kind voice.

Sighing in relief, Roxy’s hands tighten on her jacket. “Thank you.”

“No problem. I take it you just moved here.” Megan tilted her head to the side as she led the way.

Roxy nodded, “About a month and a half ago.”

Roxy glanced around as they walked down the hall, leaving the cafeteria. Megan led them down a hallway, which forked off from the cafeteria. As they walked, on the left side there were windows lined up along the hallway, giving off light from the outside. Outside the windows displayed a beautiful hot day. Even though the air was thick and warm outside, the halls of the school were more of a hot breeze with a hint of cold. The sun blazed down on the windows, giving a reflection of the cloudless azure sky. She could also see a small brick wall, which had the school’s name on the other side; Ashwick High. On the other side, doors lined up to class rooms.

            “Home schooled?” Megan inquired.

Shaking her head no, “It’s complicated,” Roxy replied in a hesitant voice, not wanting to offend Megan, who she was beginning to like.

"I’m familiar with complicated." Megan twisted her index and middle fingers together. "We’re like best buds." Megan lips twitched.

Laughing, “I like you,” Roxy exclaimed happily.

“Well, here we are,” Megan stopped in front of a door that had the words Front Office in bold letters on it.

Ring!
Ring!

Megan sighed, “I have to get to class; but find me later.”

“OKAY.” Roxy chuckled as Megan rushed to her first class along with half the students in the hallway. Others just took their time.

Facing the front door, Roxy grasped the cold metal door knob, turning it, opening the door. Sadness gripped Roxy. The dread of having to meet new friends and start over plagued her. Sure, she met Megan and that was a start, but in her last school, Roxy had friends who she missed very much, who understood her.

Roxy came out of her thoughts as an elderly woman spoke. “Can I help you?” A long eyebrow arched in question.

Roxy stared at the lady, who had white hair, which was pulled towards the back of her head in a bun. She wore a large brown frame glasses, making her face look larger than it should. Her clothing wasn’t any better, if you asked her. They were out dated, like from the 18 century or something. On her dark brown desk, that looked to be a chestnut color, a gold plaque, with the words ‘Miss Hadwin’ was engraved, stating her name.
