*Annalynn's POV*"Come on Nattie, you can do it. Remember to breath before you release." I remind her as I fix her elbow position. Once she's ready, she lets out a breath and let's go of the string. It's goes flying but doesn't even hit the target, sticking into a nearby tree. She wines and drops her bow to the ground. "No, Nattie don't get frustrated. You will get the hang of it but you have to remember it takes time."
"We have practiced every day for a week, I should have hit the target by now!" She stomps, tears welling in her eyes.
She's right...she should have at least hit the target by now.
"Nattie...when you look at the target, do you see where the red center is...or is it just one colorful circle to you."
"I see the target...but I don't see where the colors change."
"Nattie, I think you might need glasses."
"You mean I can't see?" She looks up at me.
"I think your having a hard time seeing. Stay right here." She stays and I run a little bit closer to the target but not too far. I'm putting three fingers in the air. "How many fingers am I holding up?"
She squints while hesitating to say anything. "I think...two...no maybe four!"
Yeah, she needs glasses.
"Okay, I was holding up three. Let's go find your brother." I head back over to her and take her hand. Today lesson with the boys is old fashion self defense in the ball room. We walk through the halls, both our heels making loud clicking with every step. The boys all stop the second they see us.
"Hey, you guys done early?" Christian asks.
"No, Ian take her and show her how to punch. I have to talk to to Nathan and Christian."
"What about me?" George questions.
"You pick." I shrug. He chooses to stay with Ian.
We walk up the stairs where we made our entrance at the ball. "What's going on?" Nathan sighs.
"I've been working with her all week for hours each day and she still can't hit a target. Today she couldn't tell if I was holding up a certain amount of fingers."
"You think she needs classes?" Christian inquires.
"It seems like that's the solution to her problem. The target just looks like one big blob to her."
Nathan sighs, crossing his arms. "Great, how do we make that happen?"
"Well I don't want her to worry right now so we all have to act like it's not that bad. I'm going to find a way to get an eye doctor here and maybe you guys could take her out on the horses."
"I want to come with you, she's my sister."
"Okay man, we'll take care of her for now." Christian pats Nathan on the back. "She'll be seeing clearer in no time you don't have to worry."
"Are you sure? I don't want to put her on you guys like that."
"No, it's fine, just do what you gotta do. We'll keep her safe while we're out." Christian assures him.
"Okay, but she rides with you and only with you."
"You got it man." He agreed and then starts back down the stairs.
