🌸 Abby 🌸
I was in my room standing in front of the mirror looking at my outfit. A dark grey pencil skirt, a black long sleeve shirt tucked in, and black heels. Jessica had braided my hair and did my makeup.
I was shaking trying to put the necklace that Bryce bought me for my 16th birthday on.
"Here, let me help you." Zach said coming up behind me. "You look beautiful." He said kissing my neck.
"I'm so nervous." I said turning around hugging him. "What happens if-" He stopped me.
"Don't worry about the what if's, just have faith the judge will do what's right." He rubbed my back. "Ready to go?" I nodded.
We walked into the living room and Bryce, My mom, And Justin were there. "Everyone else is at the courthouse, let's go." Bryce said. We all got in his car and Zach put his hand on my leg.
"It's gonna be fine." He said when we pulled up to the courthouse. I gulped.
"Let's do this." We sat in the courtroom for what felt like forever. I was sitting between Bryce and Zach, they were both holding my hands.
"Does the Jury have a verdict." The Judge asked. I was sweating.
"We do your honor."
"Please proceed."
"In the case of Clyde Anderson vs The State of California, on the charges of Third degree sexual assault, we find the defendant. Guilty." I felt a wave of relief I started crying. I leaned into Zach and cried.
"We will ask now if the Victim would like to give a statement to the guilty party." I stood up and the cop opened the gate.
"Miss.Walker please come to the stand and you may make your statement." I nodded and sat down opened my letter and wiped my tears.
"Clyde, when you came to my brothers party, you had a choice and you chose to rape me. You broke me into a million pieces to leave my friends to put me back together. For a long time I was afraid of men, you made me fear the people I trusted the most, I stayed quiet for a long time because I was afraid they'd let you go, and that you would come back and hurt me again. But I wanted to let you know, you no longer have control over my life. I've given you control for too long and you don't deserve another minute. I wish you a lifetime of figuring out what sorry is." I folded my paper back up and walked back over to Zach.
"You did good." He side hugged me and the judge looked back at Clyde.
"Young Man, I hope you learn from your mistakes. But I can't let you off so easy. What you have done to that young lady was unspeakable and vile. I sentence you to 20 years to life in prison with no chance of parole." He hit the gavel on his stand.
I stood and watched as the handcuffed Clyde. He looked at me for once I didn't feel like crying. I felt relief. "Come on Abby. We going to Olive Garden." My mom said, I nodded and we walked past the crowd of reporters.
"It's okay Abby, you did so good." Bryce said opening my door. "Don't mind the reporters." I got in and for once I finally felt peace, like the weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
