"You wanna know what's up with us, right? I'll tell you. That motherfucker hooked up with my girlfriend."
My eyes morphed into the shape of two tennis balls as that statement completely took me of guard. My mouth opened but no words left it in total speechlessness.
Dorian's troubled expression was mostly dominated by rage; yet, I still could decipher the pain and betrayal he must have felt. Despite the honesty in his eyes, I was finding it difficult to believe that Enzo Lombardi would ever be capable of being a cheater.
"I'm sorry, "I replied softly after a few seconds. Something better didn't enter my mind.
"Don't apologize for that dick, "Dorian shook his head.
"A few months ago my girlfriend- I mean ex-girlfriend-," He corrected himself quickly with a pained look, "-came to me bawling her eyes out, after some party in Lawfield, talking about how sorry she was because she made a terrible mistake. Little did I know that she was confessing to me that she slept with the all so popular Lorenzo Lombardi, one of my closest friends during that time I had first met here in Group Therapy."
"I loved her, hell, I still kinda do and I was willing to forgive her one-night stand. That didn't matter to her though. She left me. For him. And after she did, he kicked her to the curb and broke her heart."
A chill ran down my body as I listened to Dorian's heart-wrenching experience. I wasn't quite sure whether it was caused by the night's cold breeze or by his empty eyes staring into the distance.
"Dorian, look at me," The authority in my voice and the softness of my eyes contradicted each other.
Nevertheless, he gave in and finally looked into my eyes as I took one step closer. I was so close now that I was able to discover the enormous intensity of the blue color in his eyes or how the skin between his brows creased as he looked down at me. In this moment I knew that neither the coldness of this Wednesday night nor the blinding light of the dozen streetlamps mattered because all of his attention was on me. Only me. How special this knowledge made me feel could never be put into words.
"I want you to know that you don't deserve that. You deserve better than someone who doesn't appreciate your worth," My voice came out as a whisper as the corners of my mouth slightly turned upward.
Slowly Dorian's lips moved to form a breathtaking smile. We just stood there a few seconds or even minutes just staring at each other, like total creeps we are until I looked away.
All of a sudden Dorian took me back in his embrace and started to lift my feet of the ground. Genuine laughter escaped my lips as he swirled me in the air before I was able to mute the sound that resembled the howl of a hyena.
"You're just too good, Livia Meyer. I don't deserve to have you in my life but I'm also so fucking glad that you are, "Dorian's words were muffled by the fabric of my jacket as warmth shot up my body. It felt like being set on fire, but in a good way.
"You're making me blush and all emotional and shit. So stop!"
Dorian's chest rumbled with laughter as he quickly let go. The hug probably lasted only a few seconds, yet my body still feels electrified by Dorian's touch.
"Please don't cry. I'm a bad friend, "Dorian confessed, chuckling, "I can't handle that."
I just let out a small laugh as I turned around, on my way to the bus station that would take me back to Lawfield, and waved at him without looking back.
"Good night, Dorian Scholz," I called with a small smile.
I still felt his eyes on me as I turned a corner with a small smile on my lips.
