Valentina Ross watched first responders all the time, as Los Angeles was never short of emergencies. Yet, she never expected to become one of them.

At twenty years old, Valentina still hadn't decided what she wanted to do with her life. She still waitressed at the restaurant she's worked at since sixteen, and she just finished her general education at the community college. It isn't until she's watched the first responders up close, watch them save her dad, that she knows what she wants to do with her life.

It was back to school and complete training, but she was motivated to do it. Once she was done, she had been placed on the 118 to start her career and it's even sweeter to her because it was the 118 that had saved her father three years earlier. But now, it was Valentina's chance to be a hero to those around her.

- basically, Valentina comes home from work and her father is having a heart attack and she calls 911.
- it's the 118 that responds to the call
- spoiler alert: her dad survives and his survival is the motivation that Valentina needed
- she joins the 118 about six-ish months before Buck
- at first, she tries to close herself off bc the job is hard, but she realizes it's harder if she tries to be cold
- Bobby is the first to tell her that she needs to be human about it
- the team follows him
- she tends to be close to Buck (since they're close in age) once he joins
- there is no love interest, so a lot of this is Valentina learning to be human with everything she sees on the job
- and she learns to be a "hero" to those around her and in her community
