"Get out of the city. Tonight, it burns." My breath catches as I meet his solemn gaze. He's not joking. They're really burning the city. My eyes widen in realization. If I'm here, he'll burn me too. He loves me, but he loves his people more.That is the weight of his crown. To stop his brother, he must destroy everything he loves. I can't be in the way. I kiss my prince tenderly. "I will burn it with you," I promise. "And together, we will build a new kingdom on its ashes. Our Phoenix will rise again."
The castle already burns.
