Adi wondered, if it all started, the first day she came to his class...
Naah, I didn't notice her particularly, that day. she was sitting on the first bench; well she always sat on the first bench in my class.... I noticed her the first time she came with this really intelligent question, that too just a week into the lectures... she waited for the class to finish and came to me, after almost everyone had left. I have never been stopped after class, that too for a question related to the subject.
I knew I had a Gabbar Singh image back then, students sometimes didn't dare to come to me, even if they had serious attendance issues and stuff. As far as studies were concerned, I suppose they would rather do google search and resign to fate than "enter the lion's den". And here she was asking me doubts. I was surprised but I composed my self and asked her what her doubt was. When she spoke, it was evident that she had done her background search, she was thorough with all the knowledge that books and google search could provide; she only came to me for the explanation... and I was impressed. When she talked, she maintained a constant eye contact, no blushing, no boisterous attitude but a genuine passion for the subject and admiration for me.
I still remember that first day, crystal clear. Because that evening I kept thinking about her and couldn't wait until the next class. I was now keen on observing her.
Aditya had amazing observation skills,he actually had a photographic memory. he memorised the names of all the 65 stodents attending his lectures, on the first day it self, while taking the roll-call. His information on the subject was always on point. He was quite sharp and now he had decided to observe Zoya...
In the next class, Adi again found Zoya sitiing on the first bench. Mostly in his classes the back benches got filled up first, boys mostly took those seats, to be as far from him as possible. Hile girls though had a massive crush on him, never dared to take the first bench in the center row and be in the direct line of his gaze. Mostly the unlucky people were the ones sitting in the centre row.
He went earlier for that lecture than his usual time, and he was shocked to see that Zoya purposely goes and sit on that first bench, when everyone else in the class avoids it like the plague.
The lecture starts, and he keeps on staring at her, every now and then, trying to see, if the last lecture's doubt was a fluke, more like a way to impress him, or she was actually a bright student. And he was delighted to be proven wrong. He saw her, looking intensely at him with foccused eyes, but like a student. He had her 100% attention. She was even taking down notes at the right moments.
Every teacher desires a student who would be obedient and attentive to them. and Zoya was that student for Aditya.
After the lecture, he waited to see if she would come in with a doubt today. She didn't. Zoya had prepared some doubts, though she had yet not researched them online. And she didn't want to look like clingy and creepy. Also, Zoya was afraid too look like a nerd. So, she decided to wait. She was basically setting up the chase game, half unconsciously, half deliberately and Adi was falling for it, like a moth attracted to light.
The whole weekend Aditya kept thinking about her. he was intrigued to see a fearless girl like Zoya. he had either seen girls avoid him or behave like love sick puppies around him. The next week saw a drastic change in Zoya. when she came to the class, her attire had changed significantly. It appeared like she had taken special efforts to dress up today, yet, it wasn't trashy or overly-done. When she took up her usual seat today, Aditya did a double take. He was sure her changed appearance was for him, but then her expressions were completely calm and professional like always. Today Aditya looked at her more than necessary, infact at times he fumbled during the lecture, but quickly covered up and would immediately turn to the ppt, to compose himself. So actually, nobody caught him, not even Zoya. (AN: remember Kevin's reaction around Zoya... :D)
