Winter

"It's Friday, it's Friday," I sang, strutting through the office. I was in a good ass mood, my check looked nice, my credit score went up plus today was Friday which was my short work day. We closed shop at noon on Fridays! Best decision I ever made because I like to go home and do nothing at all, all weekend. Except for this weekend. This weekend is my parents anniversary party.

I hooked my phone up to my Bluetooth speakers in the office. Because I was here early, I went ahead and starting the paperwork for today. I didn't mind. Just made the day go back quicker. I rocked my hips back and forth, side to side as the beat to Bruno Mars blasted through the speakers.

"It's my birthday!!!... no it's not. But I still tho, hot comb hot," I sang along, fanning myself to the hot comb hot phrase. That probably was the only part of the song I knew other than the part where he was talking about activating the sexy. That was my favorite part.

As I was labeling the folders for today's patients, I noticed Bayleigh name on the list. She was getting her cast on today. I smiled, thinking about her bubbly personality and how much she reminded me of me when I was a teen. I pray that she keeps that spark. No matter what.

My thought process was interrupted by a knock on the door. I looked at the clock and it was 7:44. We didn't open til 8:30 and Anna had a key so I was confused. I turned the music down and walked to the door before peeking out of the blinds. I unlocked the door and opened it partially.

"We don't open til 8:30..."

"I know... I just needed to talk to you."

I thought long and hard, contemplating my options. The truth of the matter is that this conversation was going to have to happen at one point or another so why not get it over with. I stepped aside and let them in, locking the door back.

"What's up Chloe?" I asked as she took a seat on the sofa. I sat in the chair across from her. Her fidgeting made me nervous and I prayed to a higher power that she wasn't trying to fight because I had on heels today.

"Look, I want to apologize to you for the way I treated you when we were in school. I was a bully and talked about your weight and you didn't deserve that."

I was..... shocked to say the least. A bit appalled but I didn't expect much from her. She is who she is. I fluffed my curls as I got my thoughts together.

"No... you were insecure. I never crossed the line with G until after y'all broke up on the Mexico trip. You were intimidated by me and the whole time, I was on your side. Every little insecure thing you did, I told him give it a chance. You'd be hurt before...

And if making fun of me was your way of feeling in control then you had it because I respected your relationship. And clearly you had him, I was just a rebound to try to get over you but you were who he chose."

Her face softened as the guilt slowly sunk in. She thought she was going to get away with just a slap on the wrist but she needed a reality check. I stood up and told her that she could wait inside if she wanted while I finished my paperwork. Just as I made it to the door to go in the back, she called my name.
