Chapter 17

Tony's POV

Peter and I are uptown together with a few other Avengers to take down some criminals that are negotiating illegal weapons with some not so good people. I'm staying close to Peter's side during this mission because the Avengers still haven't entirely accepted us as a couple just yet. I know it'll take some time but I'm slightly paranoid that someone on our very own time might hurt him in some capacity. I just can't risk that right now.

Peter and I are back to back as we begin fist fighting with a couple of the criminals that refuse to put down their guns that are pointed at us. I manage to hold my own but Peter seems to be struggling a bit. I was concerned about him when he first came up to the Tower. He looked very sleep deprived and still does. He stumbles far more than usual and I nearly have to catch him twice in order to keep him on his feet and help him hold his own in this fight. Once we've taken down both criminals and they get arrested, I turn to Peter. "You're not okay Peter. You hardly slept and yet you still came out on this mission. Why did you do that?" He looks at me with a guilty expression. "I really wanted to prove myself a worthy boyfriend to you and the rest of the Avengers."

I sigh. "Peter, you don't need to prove anything to anyone. You became an Avenger years ago and you're my boyfriend despite what everyone else thinks or says. I could literally care less what everyone thinks of us being together. Well besides your Aunt May, she's sweet but scary too." He chuckles sadly. "You're right, I'm sorry. I didn't sleep well last night because in addition to having a lot on my mind, I was excited to go out on my first mission in a long time. I was gone for five years and I've missed out on a lot in this Earthly realm." That pierces my heart inside... Flashbacks of the five years that we spent without Peter and half of the world's population runs through my mind. It causes me to stumble back a bit and trying my best not to cry.

He moves closer to me, looking at me with concern. "Tony, you're having flashbacks. I know you are, snap out of it if you can. I'm right here in front of you and I'm not going anywhere. I love you. Stay with me, please." He opens his arms wide for me to step into and I gladly so. The two of us then stumble to the ground holding each other for support. The other Avengers continue to fight around us but we wait a few minutes before stepping back into battle and finishing this once and for all. We get the positive outcome though with all of the criminals getting arrested (which also keeps them off the streets and from hurting innocent people). They'll all be questioned by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and ultimately it's Nick Fury's call as to what happens to them after questioning.

Us and the Avengers that came with us on the mission reunite with us. We commend each other on a job well done and head back to the Tower to attend a last minute meeting Fury requested us to have this evening. It's nothing out of the ordinary thankfully. It's probably for him to give us input on how the world is functioning again post snap. I'm not going to stress too much over it. Peter giving me shoulder massages certainly helps me relax at the beginning of the meeting. Fury's weird stare is enough for me to confess to him about my divorce with Pepper, my Bisexuality, and my relationship with Peter. It makes his head spin but he doesn't say anything negative about anything I've confessed to him. That's a major relief to me if I'm being honest.
