A tremor of fear washed over Me. he was dead with the first hit, 'that's impossible his fingers twitched I watched his-fingers-twitch'. my body started to heat up and my heart was pounding out of chest like some funny bugs bunny bit, What had started as a contortion of my stomach becomes a feeling of being smothered by an invisible hand. My breathing becomes erratic, deep, then shallow. I fight it. I fight the feeling as my body writhes to be free or shut down entirely. I truly was a stone-cold killer.
"State your plea." The judge insisted straighten out his robe
" I plea, For Aaron Mathews and his families behalf that Michelle Salvador, be charged with second-degree murder a sentence of forty years with no parole," he said loudly the courtroom gasped in unison and fell silent all at the same time
my heart hammered harder against my chest and eyes dried out, tears didn't flow out like they wanted to so badly, I felt odd it wasn't fear nor sadness it was embarrassment, 'I was a murderer I was in trial for killing a guy with problems',
'He tried to rape me and he did kidnap me' yet nothing I repeated to myself soothing the ache in my chest and the pain in my head.
" I object your Honor, Attorney Mayor clearly doesn't understand the jurisdiction at hand, my Client here did what she had to do to survive she felt threatened of her life being taken from her, Clearly this wasn't some rally up and kill a man with problems, she was found malnourished, stabbed and slashed, and signs of sexual assault, "she said all in a mouth full turning red,
"Under oath, a non-criminal homicide ruling, usually committed in self-defense or in defense of another, exists under United States law. A homicide may be considered justified if it is done to prevent a very serious crime, such as rape, armed robbery, manslaughter or murder."She said proudly unbuttoning her suit jacket and taking a few steps forward
"Yes that is very true, but where is the proof." The judge stated raising an eyebrow
Linda nodded her head stepping back and pulling out a white screen for the Promethean and soon the lights dimmed down in the courtroom and the Promethean lit up with a cover page with my name as the title
"I would like to state that the images do contain gore, and anyone unwilling to be present for this may leave the courtroom" there was a moment of silence and no one left.
" Alright you may begin Defendant" the judge instructed
"Thank you, your Honor." She stated pointing a small black remote at the screen and the image changed to a picture of my thigh the large gash that was wide open and blood running down the length of my leg. a few gasps were heard in the courtroom.
a stinge of pain brew up inside me reminding me how painful it was to run with the gash on my leg
"It starts at her hip," she said pointing a red light at the top "and ends mid-thigh, five inches long with a depth of two and a half inches" she informed
Changing the slide to a picture of my abdomen with teeth marks engraved into my skin " Here we have a side by side comparison Mr.Mathews teeth alignment and Mrs.Salvador injury. The teeth marks do correlate to his dental history."
She stated taking a step back from the Promethean. "All injuries that will scar and she will have to carry as a burden, and with that being said id like to iníciate a plea of my own," Linda said going back to her seat near me."Concrete proof, thank you, Defendant Carson." The judge said taking off his reading glasses and organizing his desk
"I would like to ask Mrs. Salvador what's her opinion on the plea," he said catching me off guard I hadn't been paying attention after the other Attorney stated facts about Aaron being dead with just the first blow I just replayed the memory of his fingers twitching.
"I-I" I whispered looking down at my trembling hands.
"Not guilty" Linda whispered trying to reiterate my lines
"I-I'm," I said a bit louder turning towards my parents one last time my chest tightened at my mothers state, 'sorrow over flooded they're veins' I thought I had looked broken but her family looked worse.
The guilt sat not on my chest but inside of my brain, What I had done could not be un-down. I could possibly one day make amends in subtle ways, but the confession was out of the question, even to my priest. Only in my silent prayers could I speak my heart to God and beg for His mercy, I didn't feel like I deserved the love of Jesus Christ but I clung to it and hung the shreds of sanity on it. I prayed that one day I would feel removed from this sin, washed clean of it, but the guilt was a stain on me, an ugly scar, I had to learn to believe in redemption and rebirth, I had to leave my deeds in the past and move on.
"I'm guilty" I whispered into the courtroom the once brightly lit room turned sepia, everyone became quiet you could basically hear a pin drop.
"Then that settles it" the judge brought his Mallot down on the wood stomp bringing life back to the courtroom
"I hereby sentence Michelle Salvador 10 years for murder in act of self-defense with a chance of parole at the age of 18 she will be charged as an adult and will be transported WNCO in the next four days, with a chance of bail at 20,000 dollars. " The judge said standing up and pick up his stuff
"Your Honor this is not just" lawyer Carson stated flabbergasted
"Clearly your client begs to differ, this will be a learning experience for her, she will continue with her school work and maybe better herself after this." He said leaving the courtroom
"This court stands adjourned. Order in the court" the clerk stated people muttering and others leaving.
I turned towards my family, Mother was far too gone in shambles to speak or to even look my way
"I will call you," I whispered up to my father as he gave me a tight nod, forcefully hands wrapped around me and yanked me out of the courtroom.
My last view was of my mother being held back by my father and My two older brothers just staring at me. and lastly, my eyes traveled back to the now-empty seat of the mysterious man, 'probably was just a cop'
'This was honestly fucking embarrassing'
