Peripheral Vision

You’re curled up on your bed late at night, reading scary stories on your phone. The only light illuminating your room is from your device. Your hairs stand up on the back of your neck with every word you’re reading.

Then a dreadful sense of paranoia creeps up your spine. You no longer feel alone. The corner of your eyes caught a movement but you won’t look. You don’t want to. You keep on reading and delve deeper into the story.

The shadow in your peripheral vision is still there, stalking you. Then it moves closer, and you can sense it writhes and flails like a fluid dancer as it approaches you. It stops a few inches from the side of your face.
Your brain says don’t look but your heart’s curiosity is stronger, so you turn your head.

“What are you doing?” The grinning woman with hollowed-out eyes whispers.
