“Hey,” A woman’s voice greeted me in the dark.
“H-Hey,” I said with shallow breaths. It was hot and stuffy. The infinite darkness around me made it worse.
“Don’t worry. It’ll pass. It took me a few months to get used to this place,” She said. Then she continued. “Abdul there took only a few days to settle before he’s dandy again. Isn’t it right, Abdul?”
“Yup, that’s right. Relax dude. You’re not alone in here,” A male’s voice chimed in the darkness. I couldn’t pinpoint where it came from. Whether from my right or left, I couldn’t be sure, just like the woman’s voice.
Muffled voices and cries echoed in the vast sea of blackness. My chest tightened. I tried moving my body.
“Relax. You’ll be fine,” The male voice said.
I can hear my mother’s wailing and the Imam reading my last rites above me.
“Nooo!!!” I screamed.
