The alpha came rushing to the door, his hair out of place and greying on the sides.
Old alpha my wolf corrected, the new alpha isn’t here.
The man bowed his head to Cyn and Avery respectably, never losing eye contact. I removed my hand that was still on Avery’s arm.
“Finally, some respect, I was worried.” Avery muttered.
“I am sorry about Gwen; she’s had a rough week lately. May I officially welcome you to the Evergreen pa- err manor.” The man corrected as he cleared his throat, probably hoping I didn’t catch on to his stumble. The poor man looks like he’s been through a lot, especially since werewolves rarely get grey hair.
“Hello sir, I’m Evelyn, and this is Cynthia and Avery, It’s nice to meet you.” I said with a sincere smile.
“Well why don’t you come on in, and we can get the three of you settled.” The man offered stepping away from the door. Nodding I lead the way in. Inside was just as impressive as out. The walls were warm browns and green, the wood floors covered with Persian carpets. Quietly sniffing the air I made it into the living room where a few of the Evergreens pack were watching TV. Among them was the rude Gwen girl, on some guys lap, and where she looked up she glared harshly, before looking away. Looking behind me I noticed both Cyn and Avery weren’t there. I sniffed the air again to find out they were still by the front door, I decided to lean against the nearest wall, and tuned in listening through Avery.
“I sense the two of you are not the Alpha?” The man asked confused.
Keep it vague I whispered to Avery.
“Yes, I’m the gamma and Cyn here is the beta.”
“Beta? But she’s not even a wolf!”
“And?” Cyn chimed in. The man’s eyes widened, realizing how that must have sounded.
“I meant no disrespect, I am just surprised.” Cyn just nodded, she always enjoyed making people squirm.
“Our Alpha is a bit busy at the moment.” Avery said, breaking the uncomfortable moment, earning a glare from Cyn, which Avery ignored.
“Busy? With what if I may ask.” This man was truly nosy, but if either refused to answer he may get suspicious.
“Personal business.” Cyn said simply.
Avery I prompted her say something.
“Our Alpha went to meet up with family.” Avery said, avoiding pronouns. The man nodded, accepting their answers.
Wrap it up, Av I told her before leaving her. Back to myself I look up to see everyone in the living room looking at me expectantly.
“Pardon?” I ask, lost.
“I asked your name.” the guy under Gwen said.
“Evelyn” I said simply, as Avery, Cyn and the alpha walked in.
“And this is Avery and Cynthia; they will be staying here with us for the time being.” The Alpha spoke up.
“Alpha Raymond? Alpha?!” A man called out.
“In the living room, Jayce.” Raymond called back. I froze in shock.
Jayce my wolf whispered.
Jayce jogged into the living room, looking around, before stopping at Cynthia.
“Hello?” He said questioningly.
“Jayce?”
“Right, do you know where my dad is? I need to talk to him” Jayce asked still looking at Cyn, who purposely ignored him.
“Out with Alishia”
“And we are her!” A feminine voice called out very loudly. Very slowly I turned coming face to face with the owner of the voice and……my father.
