"You gotta admit, as a feat of engineering alone, this is totally impressive."
Cassiopeia Turner shot Dustin Henderson an annoyed and confused look, her lips scrunching up. She knew she couldn't be mad at the kid for being slightly excited about being in a secret underground Russian base, but the farther she got down the tunnel, the more she started to get an uneasy feeling in the pit of her empty stomach.
"What're you talking about? It's a total fire hazard," Steve Harrington shot back, his head looking over the heads of Cassie, Erica Sinclair, and Robin Buckley all the way to where his young friend was walking. "There's no stairs, there's no exit, there's just an elevator that drops you halfway to hell."
"Maybe it's supposed to be like that," Cassie piped up, Steve's eyes dropping slightly onto her, the shorter girl shrugging. "I mean, if the Russians really want something to be kept a secret, why not make it so that they could erase all evidence with a single match? No witnesses."
Robin glanced over at Cassie for a moment, the five of them soaking in her words before she mumbled, "Aren't you a ray of sunshine."
"No, she's right. They're commies," Erica stated from Casse's side, looking past the older girl to give Steve a look. "They don't pay people, they cut corners."
Erica and Cassie shared a short handshake that they created during their eight hours in a giant metal elevator, Steve gave them both a shocked look. Before he could open his mouth, Robin added her own opinion; "To be fair to our Russian comrades, I don't think this tunnel was designed for walking. I mean, think about it, they developed the perfect system for transporting that cargo."
Dustin seemed to catch onto Robin's drift, "it all comes into the mall like any old delivery."
"And then they load it up onto those trucks and nobody's the wiser."
As Robin finished, Steve was stuck with a new thought, "You think they built this whole mall so they could transport that green poison?"
"I very seriously doubt it's something as boring as poison," Dustin quipped, rolling his eyes. "It's gotta be much more valuable, like promethium or something."
"Pro-what now?"
"What the hell is promethium?"
Robin answered the couple as if the Cyborg's history was common knowledge, "It's what Victor Stone's dad used to make Cyborg's bionic cybernetic components."
"You're all so nerdy, it makes me physically ill," Erica clutched her stomach dramatically, Cassie's lips twitching upward for the first time since they left the elevator, Steve's own lips forming a grin at the sight. "Careful, Erica. You're showing weakness."
