❝The sky'd be falling and I'd hold you tight, and there wouldn't be a reason why we would even have to say goodbye.❞
If the World Was Ending - JP Saxe & Julia Michaels
"Oh, man, now this.. this is what I'm talking about."
The sight of the pristine Cadillac in the midst of all the chaotic events the night held was truly meant for sore eyes. Even Cassie had to let Steve Harrington's excitement infect her, her nose scrunching up as he flipped the keys between his fingers like a giddy child.
"Toddfather?"
"Oh, screw Todd, Steve's her daddy now!" Steve replied to Robin's distaste, swinging open the driver's door, the rest of them piling in. "Uh, did you just talk about yourself in the third person?"
"Did he just call himself daddy?" Erica asked, Cassie nodding in agreement from her spot in the passenger seat. "You know, that's the part that concerned me too."
Steve sat behind the wheel, a smile plastered onto his blood-caked face. "Alright, where are we goin'?"
"Weathertop," Dustin answered as if anyone was supposed to understand what that meant. "Weather-what?" Steve asked, glancing back at the younger boy. "Just drive," Dustin snapped at him.
"Okay, Jesus." Steve started the car, screeching out of the parking space with a reckless amount of speed and sliding through the rain onto the open road.
After what felt like an eternity, the patience of the passengers in the fancy car began to wear thin. The radio had been turned on within the first few minutes of boredom, but even Jackie Wilson's soothing voice couldn't keep the group's impatience contained.
"Jesus, how far is this place, man?" Steve shouted over the mix of the wind against the moving car and the radio. "Relax, we're almost there," Dustin bit back, eyes scanning the outside persistently.
Robin's voice carried throughout the car, "Suzie must be pretty special, huh?" Cassie turned back slightly to see Dustin looking at Robin with a quizzical expression. "I mean, if you built this thing and lugged it all the way to the middle of nowhere just to talk to her?" Cassie has rarely seen Dustin's eyes light up the way they did as he began talking, "I mean, nobody's scientifically perfect, but Suzie's about as close to being perfect as any human could possibly be." Cassie turned back to the front, her lower lip pouting out as she briefly met Steve's eyes.
"That was cute," she spoke so that only the two of them could hear. Steve shook his head one of his hands leaving the steering wheel to hold Cassie's, the intertwined hands resting on her upper thigh. "You're getting worked up over a middle school relationship, C," Steve's voice floated back to her, quiet against the radio and wind. Cassie shot him a look, "It's a really cute middle school relationship."
