"Step on the fucking gas!"
The impact sent both cars skidding across the parking lot, heads and arms flailing in separate directions. As if Robin, Cassie, and Steve couldn't have gotten any more beaten and bruise, they all more than likely had whiplash now as well.
The Toddfather was wrecked and Cassie almost felt bad for the poor fool who owned this car. But then again, this is Hawkins. Shit happens. The three took a moment to breathe before Steve's breathless voice broke the silence, "Are you okay?"
Cassie pointed to Billy's now flaming car, "Doing better than him."
For the first time since leaving the hill, Robin spoke up, standing up slowly in the backseat. "Holy shit-"
Cass and Steve slowly stood with her, gaze fixated on the top of Starcourt Mall, both of their faces dropping with a mix of amazement and horror.
A deafening roar echoed through Hawkins, the indescribable creature climbing towards them on the top of the mall. It was as if it was staring directly at them, the trio frozen in fear.
A beep from next to them made Cassie jump, before relief flooded through her as the faces of Nancy, Jonathan, Will and Lucas peered through the tinted windows. Nancy ushered the three into the car, squeezing into the trunk. The reunited group raced away, the impending booming of the creature following close behind providing absolutely no comfort.
What did add comfort, however was the crackling static of the handheld radio turning into an unrecognizable voice.
"I copy, Suzie-poo. It sounds much better now, thanks."
Cassie and Steve shared a look, both of them amazed that this 'Suzie' girl was actually real and not an elaborate part of their young friend's notoriously wild imagination. What was even more amazing was the pet names the two decided to use. "Suzie." Robin and Steve both voiced their astonishment while Cass's eyes shifted back to the monster on their tail, seeming to get closer with every second.
"Okay, so, listen." Dustin's voice seemed far away with the blood rushing in Cassie's ears, but knowing that this thing was following them instead of going after him and Erica was worth the fear. "Do you know Planck's constant?"
"Do you know the Earth orbits the sun?" Cass could almost imagine the dorky smile on Dustin's face as he replied. "Okay, so I know it starts with two sixes, and then a... what is it?"
As Suzie spoke again Cassie knew Dustin was in the doghouse. It was the same tone she used when Steve didn't call before bed. Or when he was late picking her up. "Okay," Suzie spoke clearly. "Let me just be clear on this. I haven't heard from you in a week, and now you want a mathematical equation that you should know so you can... save the world?"
