“Yma, can you please come in my office?” wika ni Sir Victor over the landline
“Yes sir.” Binaba ko na ang telepono at tumungo na sa opisina ni Sir Victor
Pinaupo niya ako sa mga upuan na kaharap ng kanyang mesa habang siya ay nagpalakad lakad at nakatingin sa labas ng glass wall.
“You know Yma, I’m already 65 years old and I’m very, very old.” Patuloy lang siya sa paglalakad habang sinasabi ito sa akin “All these paperworks and stress from work are not really healthy for me.”
“Are you saying sir-“ he cut me in
“Yes. By now I should be enjoying the rest of the world with my wife. My two daughters are old enough to know their interests in life and they don’t have interest in taking over of the company and I support them for that.” Aw. Magreretire na si sir. Surely, we’ll all miss him. Bait kasi niya kasi na foreigner
“We will all miss you sir. But if I may ask, who will take over the company?” may dalawa kasi siyang anak na babae na puro malalaki na pero iba ang career na pinili nila, malayong malayo sa pamamahala ng engineering firm. Yung isa model, yung isa naman chef
“Oh, yeah, my cousin, he has a son, Michael, who’s also an engineer. So, yeah, I asked Michael to take over the company and he agree.” Proud na proud na sabi niya “He’ll be arriving here in the country a day after tomorrow.”
“Oh, would you like me to make arrangements for his arrival sir?”
“No, my wife and I would be fetching Michael, but that reason I called you here is I want you to find a place where he can live since he’ll be staying here for good.”
“Oh, uhm, I know this is personal, but can I know how old is he?” kailangan kong tanungin eh para na rin sa paghahanap ko ng bahay, mamaya matanda na pala yun tapos condo ang kinuha ko eh di bukol ako.
“Uhm, he’s just in his early twenties.” Hmmmm…..
“Oh, okay sir. Is that all?” umayos na ako ng upo at akma nang tatayo
“Well, there’s this one favor that I would like to ask. Can you tour him, like get him to be comfortable with the environment in the country once Michael got here?”
Yun lang pala eh. “Oh, sure sir. No problem.” Ngumiti na ako “Sir, I’m gonna go back to work now. I wish happy retirement and good health.” Ngumiti lang siya sa akin at tuluyan ko ng nilisan ang opisina niya
