Welcome, NinjaShipper and Voltron fans alike, to my very first Voltron fanfiction! So, I've been researching the show for some time, and I think, "yeah, this is good enough content to write fanfiction about." So, if you're new, quick summary: this is an OC fanfiction, yes, but with a slightly different twist. No extra lion/paladin this time around, just something I hope is entirely new! So, I hope this helps me regain my follower count a little. Enjoy the show!

"Nifa, my child...there comes a day when every Raionsupiritean must face their greatest life challenge. The day they overcome it is the day they grow up and become a beacon of hope for their people. One day you will face such a challenge. I hope your bright mind and strong heart will play as an advantage to that challenge you face. In the end, I know you will make the right call."

Her father's words echoed in her mind over and over as she stared into the stars through her cabin's window. Part of her wondered if she would ever see him again. After all, moving to another planet galaxies away from her own made those chances very slim.

She supposed with was fitting though, considering she wasn't completely Raionsupiritean. Nifa was a half-and-half, both a Raionsupiritean and a human. Her mother had insisted to her father that she should spend her training on Earth, far from the reaches of the battlefield, until she was ready.

Ready for what, exactly? She had no clue. But she knew that a destiny had been laid out for her, one that would end the war that had started between the Galra and the rest of the universe. Their oppression was being tolerated no more, and the rebels were fighting with a might that shook the cosmos to their roots.

She wished that her father had come with them, so they could live as a family like they used to. But Niju was her village's leader, and he had duties to attend to back on their home planet, Raion.

Heaving a sigh, Nifa rested her golden brown cheek on her hands, her light brown hair falling in swaths around her shoulders. With bright eyes of yellow and a slender figure, she looked like the human version of a proud lioness. She was often told the same. It was no surprise to her, as she knew her people were famous in aiding in the creation of very powerful machines, built to protect the universe. They were known as the lions, and they weren't like any other vehicle. They had consciousnesses, with the abilities to think and feel. Their spirits were linked with that of her people, and that part of her planet's history made her feel special in some way.

"But why move me away from that?" Nifa wondered as they passed a reddish planet. "What destiny could be so important that I must leave all that behind and face the future?"

"Nifa, dearest," said a soft woman's voice from outside her cabin door. "We're nearing planet Earth. Best you get ready for landing."

Obeying her mother's command, Nifa stood up and twitched her ear, the way she always did when she felt a strong emotion. She quickly brushed up her hair and straightened her long, flowing Raionsupiritean robe. She knew whether she liked it or not, she'd have to make a good first impression upon landing on this new world.

"The Earth is so...squishy..." Nifa thought to herself, prodding questionably at a small mud puddle they had landed close to. It was very different from the solid, stable land of Raion she was so used to.

"Come now, Nifa, behave," her mother told her sternly, but she softened up fast as she gazed into the night sky. "Oh, how I've wanted to return home for so long...trust me, sweetheart. You will soon learn to love Earth just as much as I do. There is no other planet quite like it."

"There was that one jungle moon in the Horsehead Nebula," Nifa pointed out, earning a giggle from her mother.

"The jungle moon didn't support intelligent life like humans there," her mother replied. "Humans are truly wonderful creatures, and I'm so blessed to have had a child who shares half of that wonder."

Beaming, Nifa strode next to her mother and nuzzled into the fold of her soft dress. It smelled like the Raionsupiritean blossoms she always sprinkled herself with in the mornings. It was the most comforting smell in the galaxy to her. She felt like her mother always knew what to say to her, to make her feel more at ease. Needless to say, like always, it worked. Maybe Earth wouldn't be so bad.

The pair came to a road, almost completely deserted. There were no humans in sight, no sign of life anywhere. Just then, a pair of lights came flashing down the road. A strange vehicle slowed to a stop in front of them. When the windows to the vehicle rolled down, a man with a slight stubble and black hair rolled down the window to greet them.

"Why, hello there, strangers," he said in a deep voice. "Need a lift?"

And so it begins! What does this opening say for our new characters in the future? What challenges might Nifa face in this new journey? Read on and find out!
