Nifa couldn't sleep.
After her dream of her past life on Earth, the time she spent with Keith, she couldn't seem to get her mind off of it. Was this okay? She'd dreamt of this before back at home whenever she missed him, but now she was Voltron's spirit guide, with the sole purpose of restricting her dreams to guiding Voltron or the other lions only. Was she doing this right?
Unable to take it any longer, she sat up in bed and slipped her feet into tiny moccasins. Maybe she could get an answer out of Allura, just to be sure.
She left her room, careful not to make any noise, and headed down the hallway. As she neared Allura's room, she passed a chamber that she heard voices behind.
"I loved the smell of the mountain juniberries in the early morning breeze," she heard Princess Allura sigh.
"As did I, Allura," said a grizzled, older voice that she didn't recognize.
"Remember the summer berry festival? People would come from all over Altea for the harvest,"
"I remember how the berry juice stained your favorite dress. You were so upset,"
Allura laughed. "It took forever for Mother to calm me." Her voice then became sad. "I miss Altea so much. I miss you, Father. I wish it didn't have to be this way."
"I know, Allura," the older voice comforted her. "But, as leaders, we have to do what's right for our people, even if it means great sacrifice."
"I know, Father. That's what you always say."
Curious, Nifa knocked on the door to the chamber, and it immediately opened up, revealing a huge field of pink flowers. Sitting there in the middle of the field was the princess. She was next to a taller, older Altean man with brown skin, white hair, and a white full beard. The pupils of his eyes had a noticeable pink in the center of them. His hair was cut just above his shoulders and he had long bangs swept to the right of his face. He wore white and gold armor with a blue cloak.
"GAH-!" Nifa stumbled backwards in surprise and fell flat on her back. The blossoms broke her fall, but she was still just as alarmed. She looked up to see the princess staring back at her, looking both startled and embarrassed. "Princess? Who's this guy?"
"Oh, that's right!" Allura said, rubbing the back of her neck shyly. "You were on the Galran warship when the team was introduced. You two haven't met yet."
Striding over to Nifa and helping her up, the princess led her over to the Altean man. As she got closer, Nifa realized that she could see through him! The man wasn't a real person, but a hologram!
"Nifa, this is my father, King Alfor," Allura introduced her. "Father, this is Nifa, Voltron's new spirit guide."
"It's an honor, sir," Nifa said politely, sticking out her hand for him to shake. She then realized that such a greeting was of little use to a hologram, and withdrew it awkwardly. "Uh...as your daughter said, I'm Voltron's spirit guide...yay?"
King Alfor only peered down on her apathetically, not saying a word. "You took on a Galran warship alone?"
"Er...I wouldn't say 'took on'..." Nifa said, already sensing that Allura's father didn't like her. "More like infiltrated. But yeah, I guess I DID go alone...MAYBE not the best life choice?"
King Alfor was silent for a long time. Finally, he nodded once in a somewhat approving way. "Charmed."
Hoping to escape this uncomfortable situation, Nifa took Princess Allura's shoulder. "The Balmera rejuvenation ceremony probably took a lot out of you. Why don't we talk in your room, Princess?"
