Episode 8 "It's Been A While"

After finally finding Cameron, Riley and he fly out to Las Vegas with Shaylynn.

Shaylynn walks into the venue Bruno Mars is performing in with Riley and Cameron behind her.
Both of them turn their heads every which way to take everything in as they follow Shaylynn up onto the stage where Bruno and his band are. Both Riley and Cameron can't believe they're standing on the same stage as Bruno Mars.
Bruno sees Shaylynn and smiles, "I know you have kids but I didn't know they were this old," he says to her.
Shaylynn shakes her head as she stops in front of him, "This is my niece Riley and her boyfriend Cameron. They're under my protection," she tells Bruno.
Bruno nods at Shaylynn then looks at Riley and Cameron, "You've got the best protecting you," he tells them, "She does a wonderful job protecting me! And what I know about Shaylynn and how she feels about family, there's nowhere safer to be than with her," he says seeing the look on Shaylynn's face, "What is it?"
"I'd like to put them with your family if I could so I know they're safe during the performance," Shaylynn tells him.
"Of course!" Burno tells her, "I don't know why you thought you had to ask me."
Shaylynn smiles, "Thanks!" she tells him, "I'm going to get these two back to the room so they and myself can get ready."
"Alright," Bruno says, "See you guys later," he tells Riley and Cameron.
The three of them walk off the stage and out of the venue.

Walking through the hotel, Riley and Cameron both can't believe they're in Las Vegas.
Riley looks at Cameron and can see by the look on his face that something's bothering him, "Cameron, what's wrong?" she asks him.
"I can't get past that your Aunt is an Assassin," he tells her.
"Who better to protect you from people trying to kill you then to be with someone who kills people for a living," Riley tells him with a half-smile on her face.
"I suppose," Cameron tells her as they reach the elevator and get on.
On the way up to their suite, Shaylynn looks at Riley and Cameron, "I know you two are young adults but you two are still under my supervision. So be mindful of your actions and only do things you would be comfortable doing if you were in your place with your Dad there," she says looking at Riley and then at Cameron.
Cameron's eyes get huge, "Yes, Ma'am!" he says.
Shaylynn smiles at him.

Friday and Saturday go by quickly.
It's Sunday morning and time to return to Chicago.

Walking in the front door, Shaylynn can hear Jacquelyn running toward them, "RILEY!" she shouts seeing her standing beside Shaylynn until she comes to a quick stop when she sees Cameron, "Who are you?"
"Jacquelyn!" Shaylynn says to her daughter then looks at Riley and Cameron, "She gets that from her father."
Both Riley and Cameron laugh, "This is Cameron, my boyfriend," Riley tells Jacquelyn.
Jacquelyn gives Cameron a look, "Boyfriend, uh," she says putting her hands on her hips.
Shaylynn shakes her head, "Yep, there's Jay alright!" she says looking at Jacquelyn, "Come on, I'll show you two to your rooms," she tells them.
"Can I come?" Jacquelyn asks.
"Can you behave?" Shaylynn asks her.
"Yes," Jacquelyn says giving her Mom puppy dog eyes.

Upstairs, Shaylynn shows Cameron to his room then Riley to hers, "Where's your room?" Riley asks Shaylynn.
"It's downstairs," Shaylynn tells her, "But Jill and Jenna's rooms are up here," she tells Riley smiling, "I'll let you get settled in."
"I'll help her," Jacquelyn says smiling as Shaylynn looks at Riley.
"She's fine," Riley tells Shaylynn.
Shaylynn nods and walks out of the room.

Downstairs, Shaylynn walks into her bedroom to unpack when her phone rings.
She puts her suitcase on the bed, pulls her phone out of her pocket to see it's Halstead calling.
"Hello," she says smiling.
"Hey, gorgeous! Are you home?" Halstead asks her.
"Yes, I'm unpacking," she tells him.
"Okay," Halstead says, "You better move the suitcase off the bed because we're going to need the room," he tells her.
Shaylynn quickly turns her head around to see Halstead standing in the doorway of the bedroom smiling at her.
He walks in, closing the door behind him then locks it.
Quickly walking over to her, he pulls her into his arms, "I've missed you!" he says before kissing her passionately.
As he kisses her, he pushes the suitcase off the bed with it landing on the floor with a thump.

A few months have gone by and Christmas is coming very soon.

Shaylynn's standing next to the fence for the pasture where the horses run, as snow falls onto her. She watches as Rodney puts the horse blankets on all four horses before turning them loose into the pasture.
Standing there, she thinks about yesterday as she watched Beth die and came back to life in front of her after giving birth to her and Severide's son.
She's watched a lot of people die, a lot by her own hands, but never a family member.
As she stands there thinking about everything that happened, she starts slipping into her dark abyss.
Shaylynn closes her eyes feeling herself slip more and more by the minute. When she starts feeling like this, she usually goes after what caused this feeling but in this case, there is nothing to go after and kill.
A minute goes by when she feels herself being nudged. When she finally opens her eyes, all four horses are standing at the fence looking at her.
"Momma! Momma!" Shaylynn hears coming from behind her.
She turns around to see Landon and Logan trying their best to run through the snow to get to her.
When they finally reach her, she bends down and picks them up. Each of them takes their hands and pet each of the horses on their noses.
Shaylynn can feel herself come back to reality. It's like the horses and the boys could sense she needed their help before she fell too deeply into that dark abyss.
Jenna comes walking out to them, "I'll take them. It's time for their naps," she tells Shaylynn.
Shaylynn kisses each boy on a cheek then hands them over to Jenna, "Bye, Momma," both boys say together as Jenna walks back to the house.
Turning back around, Shaylynn pets the horses, "Thank you," she tells them.
They stand there for a few seconds looking at her then turn around and take off.
Shaylynn smiles as she watches them have fun in the snow.
Watching them for a few minutes, she turns around so she can start walking up to the house when she sees Mason standing there.
Smiling, she walks over to him, "Hi," she says to him.
Mason smiles at her, "Hi," he says back to her.
"It's been a while since I've seen you," Shaylynn tells him.
"I had some things I had to take care of back in Scotland," he tells her.
Shaylynn smiles at him again, "Let's go inside," she says as she walks past him toward the house.
Mason gets a huge smile on his face before turning around to follow her to the house.
