Sitting on the bench bawling, something flips in Shaylynn's brain.
She starts getting visions of killing herself.
Standing up, she walks over to some steps that lead up to a bridge.Walking out onto the bridge, Shaylynn gets close to the railing. She puts her hands on it along with a foot.
"SHAYLYNN!" she hears someone yell at her as she pushes herself up on to the railing.
She looks in the direction of the person yelling to see Halstead running toward her.
He hurries and grabs ahold of her pulling her down and into his arms, "I'm so sorry!" he tells her, "I shouldn't have walked away! And for you to think about doing this," he says with tears in his eyes as he backs up from her, putting his hands on each side of her face caressing it, "I would die if something happened to you!"
"But this mess," Shaylynn starts to say when Halstead stops her.
"A baby isn't a mess! Until we find out differently, as of right now it's mine!" he tells her, "Okay."
Shaylynn shakes her head, "Jay, I'm so sorry to get you into a mess like this!" she tells him with tears streaming down her face.
"Hey," he says wiping the tears away with his thumbs, "You didn't do anything! This is all on me! If I would have made sure those divorce papers went through the court instead of expecting that they would, all of this would have been avoided! Have you told Austin yet?" he asks.
Shaylynn shakes her head 'no', "I wanted to tell you first," she tells him.
"I think you should tell him," Halstead says, "I'll drive you."
Shaylynn looks at him confused, "You're going to drive me so I can tell Austin this baby may or may not be his?"
"Yes," Halstead tells her taking her hand.
They start walking back to the truck, "You're a mystery to me, Jay Halstead," Shaylynn tells him, he looks at her as he opens the passenger door and smiles, "And that smile can get me to do anything!"
Halstead's smile gets bigger, "I'll have to remember that!" he tells her.
Shaylynn smiles at him as she gets into the truck.
After Halstead gets in his phone rings, "Halstead."
"Adam and I found Christian dead," Hank tells him.
"Where?" Halstead asks.
"In the same railroad yard," is all Hank says.
"How?" he asks Hank.
"Gunshot to the head. This was a professional hit because whoever did it knew what they were doing not leaving any evidence behind," Hank tells him.
"Do you think Butch or one of the other guys did it?" Halstead asks looking over at Shaylynn who's glaring at him.
"I checked and they're all out of the country," Hank says, "We have nothing to go on. No evidence was found around the car, on the car, or in the car. And the few cameras that are around that area had nothing on them. Is Shaylynn with you?" he asks.
"Yes, she's with me. I'll tell her as soon as I hang up," Halstead says, "If you need me, let me know."
"Alright," Hank says hanging up.
"What's going on?" Shaylynn asks as Halstead starts the truck up.
"Christian was found dead," Halstead tells her as he drives down the street.
"Where?" Shaylynn asks.
Halstead quickly looks over at her, "Shaylynn," he says.
"Where was he found?" she asks again.
"In the railroad yard," he tells her.
"Why were you asking about Butch and the others?" she asks.
"Hank said it was a professional hit. No evidence was left anywhere," Halstead tells her.
"So it's over! He's gone for good!" she says as she feels tears filling her eyes.
"He's gone!" Halstead says grabbing her hand.~~~~~~
Parking in the parking lot of Austin's main gym, Halstead shuts off the truck, "I'll wait here," he tells her.
Shaylynn nods and gets out.
Halstead watches her walk around the building and disappear when he notices a man walk out the back with Austin.
Austin shakes the man's hand before the man gets in his car.
Turning around, Austin walks back in as the man drives away.
Watching the guy drive-by, Halstead gets a better look at the guy's face to see it's Tony Russo. A hitman with the Chicago Mafia.Walking into the gym, Shaylynn sees Adam, "Adam, is Austin around?" she asks him.
"Yeah, he's back in his office," he tells her.
Heading back toward his office, Shaylynn knocks on the door, "Yeah!" she hears come from inside.
Shaylynn opens the door and sees the look on Austin's face, "Shaylynn," he says surprised, "Why are you here?"
She walks in and closes the door, "I have something I need to tell you," she says.
"Okay," Austin says walking around his desk toward her, "What is it?" he asks.
"I'm pregnant," Shaylynn tells him.
"Congratulations," Austin tells her.
"It might be yours," she says watching his eyes get huge.
"Mine?" Austin questions.
"Yes, when the Doctor told me how far along I am it puts the time at the end of our Bali trip and a couple of days after we came back," she tells him.
"Wait, you said it might be mine," he says.
"Yes, it might also be Jay's," Shaylynn says, Austin looking at her confused, "A few days after we returned from Bali and were at that restaurant, Jay was there. He and I had sex in the bathroom."
Austin just stares at her, "I don't know what to say," he tells her.
"Austin, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you in any way! You deserve to know that you might be a father in six months," Shaylynn tells him.
"I imagine Jay knows," Austin asks.
"Yes, he knows," she tells him.
"You two alright?" he asks.
"Yes, we're fine," Shaylynn tells him.
"So, what do we do now?" he asks her.
"We just sit and wait until the baby's born and have a paternity test done," Shaylynn says.
"If it's mine you realize I'm going to be active in the child's life! I'm not signing my rights over to someone else!" Austin tells her.
"I would never ask you to sign your rights away of being a Father," she says, "I'm also happy to hear if the baby's yours you'll be active in the child's life."
There's a knock at the door.
Austin rolls his eyes as he walks over to answer it, "Yeah," he says seeing it's Adam.
"Your clients are here," Adam tells him.
Austin turns around to look at Shaylynn, "It's alright, I need to be leaving," she tells him walking toward the door until he stops her.
"You'll keep me informed about what's going on, right?" Austin questions.
"Yes, after each doctor's appointment I'll let you know how it went," she says.
"You know I'd like to go to some of the appointments," Austin tells her.
Shaylynn looks at him surprised, "Austin, I don't know. I don't want to rock the boat with Jay anymore than I already have."
"I understand," Austin says as he motions out the door.
They both start walking toward the front, "If you need anything, let me know!" he tells her.
"Thanks!" Shaylynn says as Austin kisses her on the cheek.
Shaylynn walks out of the gym while Austin watches her, "Everything alright?" Adam asks after walking up.
"Yeah, just found out I might be a Father in six months," Austin tells him and then walks away over to where his clients are leaving Adam in shock.~~~~~~
Hours later after having supper at home, Halstead tells Shaylynn he's going to Molly's to meet up with Severide and Will.
After driving down the driveway, instead of turning right, he turns left.Driving through a gate and up a long driveway, Halstead parks in front of a house and gets out.
Ringing the doorbell, a minute later the door opens with Austin standing in front of him.
Austin motions for Halstead to come in.
Halstead walks in, "I'm really surprised you're here," Austin says as he shuts the door.
"I drove Shaylynn to the gym earlier," Halstead tells him, "I saw you come out the back with Tony Russo."
"And? Is there a law that says I can't walk out the back of my gym with someone?" Austin asks.
"He's a hitman for the Chicago Mafia," Halstead says, "And on the same day you're seen with Russo, Christian's found dead in the railroad yard."
"What does this have to do with me?" Austin asks him.
"Did you pay Russo to knock off Christian?" Halstead asks.
Austin glares at him, "Russo is my Uncle, my Mother's brother. And who by the way is asking me the question? Is it the Detective from District twenty-one or is it the pissed off husband that would love to see Christian dead any way possible?"
"It's the pissed off husband," Halstead tells him.
"In that case, yes I paid my Uncle for a service," Austin tells him but not coming out directly saying what he paid him for, "Are you going to tell your father-in-law?"
Halstead shakes his head 'no', "I'm sure he's disappointed like I am we didn't get our hands on him first!" he looks at the time, "I better be going."
Halstead starts walking to the door, "How is Shaylynn, really?" Austin asks him.
"She says she's fine but I know she isn't. I know she's angry at herself for letting this happen," Halstead tells him.
Austin shakes his head, "She acts as she did it all alone."
"That's how she is," Halstead says opening the door.
"If she needs anything, let me know," Austin tells him.
Halstead stares at Austin, "Alright," he says and walks out to his truck.
He gets in and drives down the driveway this time turning right.~~~~~~~~
Walking into Molly's, Halstead sees Severide sitting at the bar, he walks over and sits down beside him.
Severide looks over to see who sat down beside him, "How's Shaylynn?" he asks Halstead.
"Beth told you?" Halstead questions, Severide nods, "I really don't know! I caught her almost to the point of jumping off a bridge," he says as Severide looks over at him concerned, "I have myself to blame for all of this! When she told me she was pregnant and it might not be mine, I could have handled it better."
"What did you do?" Severide asks.
"I walked away," Halstead says taking a drink of his beer.
"And that's when she almost jumped?" Severide asks.
"Yes," Halstead says.
"What the fuck, Jay! You of all people should know better than to do something like that with her having PTSD! I should take you outside and kick your ass for doing something so stupid!" Severide tells him furiously, "I could have lost another Shay!"
Halstead sits there in silence as his phone rings, he looks down to see it's Will calling.
"Yeah," Halstead says.
"I can't make it," Will tells him, "Riley isn't feeling well and I don't want to leave her here alone in case she needs something."
"Alright, we'll get together some other time," Halstead says, "I hope she feels better soon!"
Halstead hangs up and puts his phone on the bar, "I can't believe we're in this situation," Halstead says to Severide.
"What situation are you talking about?" Severide asks him.
"Us living off our wives," Halstead says, Severide just looks at him, "Oh come on, Kelly! You know it's true! If you don't admit to it, you're in denial!"
"We both have jobs and make our own money!" Severide says taking a drink.
"Yeah we both have jobs but there is no way we would be living in the houses we're in or driving the cars we do with our salaries!" Halstead tells him looking at the time, "I'm going to head home. It's been a long day."
Halstead stands up as does Severide, "I'm going to head home too," Severide says.
They both walk out of Molly's and to their vehicles.~~~~~~~~
The next morning, Shaylynn's woken by her phone ringing.
Reaching over to the bedside table, she picks it up, "Hello," she says.
She can hear someone crying, "Beth? Is that you?" Shaylynn asks.
"Yes," Beth says faintly.
"What's wrong? Are you and the baby alright?" Shaylynn asks her.
"We're fine, it's Kelly's Mom," Beth tells her.
"What's wrong with Jennifer?" Shaylynn questions.
"She passed away," Beth tells her as she starts crying more.~~~~~~~~
