13.

School was uneventful. It was the usual, tedious classes. Although I couldn't help but stare at Sebastian while he taught.

It has been three days after the trip to Texas and I barely saw Sebastian. I had homework and midterms to study for and he had meetings and papers to grade. I was starting to miss him.

I was in my dorm listening to music and doing my homework when my phone started to vibrate. I jumped at the unexpected call. I smiled.

"hello?" I said. Turning off my iPod. "hello beautiful. I've missed you. Meet me under the oak tree in ten and oh dress nice." Sebastian said cheerfully and without a good bye he hung up so I couldn't ask questions. I wonder where we were going. I pulled out the red tube dress I was gonna wear at the party in Texas and a black blazer. I decided on black flats. I finally got new glasses but didn't feel like wearing um, I had gotten so used to contacts. I tied my hair in a high pony and grabbed my bag.

I stood under the oak tree for a sign of Sebastian. I stood there for couple minutes and he appeared. He was smiling. He still had his work clothes on, which was a polo shirt and slacks.

"you look beautiful as always."he said. He didn't kiss me cause we were in public. "thanks. Where are we going?" I asked curiously. I hated surprises. "ah ah ah. You'll have to wait. But I wanna change first so let's go." he said and led me to the parking lot. He usually took his black Lexus to school. He said the Audi was too ostentatious.

We reached his home and he changed quickly into black pants and a white button down polo. His hair was neat and fell to his fore head. He pulled me into a hug and kissed me.

He never pushed me into anything. Never forced me to French kiss him or sleep with him and that's what I loved about him.

He slowly pulled away. "we're gonna be late." he smiled and took my hand. "where exactly are we going?" I asked him as we walked to his Audi. "you'll see" he chuckled.

"Pinks?" I asked as he parked the car. "yea I thought we should have dinner. It is the first place we had dinner together and it has been exactly one month since we've been dating." he said as he smiled and pulled me into a kiss. Had it been one month already? I lost track of time. I can't believe he remembered. He pulled away and stepped out of the car to open my door. I laughed. I took his offered hand. "aw this is so sweet of you. Honestly I hadn't kept track of how long we've been together." I said as we walked into pinks. We sat at the same table as we did the first time we were here. "it's alright. Besides I remembered that tomorrow is your birthday." he smiled. Wow I hadn't even remembered that it was my birthday tomorrow. I had been so caught up with school. "oh I forgot about that too." I laughed. "well I hadn't so I wanted to do something special. So I hope you'll like it." he said. I smiled at him. "you are so sweet. Thank you." I said.

We finished eating at Pinks when Sebastian drove to a park. "where are we?" I asked. It was twilight now. "we, my dear are at Washington Park." he said and led me to the little gazebo that was surrounded by water. It was cute. "I want to dance with you." he said and pulled me to him. "okay. This is nice" I said. "but it's so quiet" i looked around and it was deserted. "ah. That reminds me." he said pulling out his iPod and earphones. He stuck one side in my ear and the other in his. He chose a slow song I didn't know. It was a nice song to dance to. "this is nice and sweet." I smiled at him. He was gazing into my eyes. He just kissed me ever so lightly. I smiled.

We danced till it was dark out and the stars were out. I hugged him close to me. It was perfect. "thank babe, this was such a perfect night." I said. My head was rested on his chest. "you're welcome. But it's not over yet." he said. I looked up at him. "really?" I asked. He just smiled and took my hand in his and we walked back to the car.

"where are we?" I asked. I hadn't been here before. "we are at the pier"he said. I finally recognized the pier, it was hard to see in the dark. He opened my door for me and led me to the edge of the pier. We sat with our feet hanging off the edge. We were too high for the water to touch our toes. I removed my flats and stared at the water. It was beautiful. We just sat there silently. I was leaned into Sebastian and he had his arm around me.

He checked his watch. "oh it's time." he said. I furrowed my eyebrows. "time for what?" I asked. I checked my own watch and it was 11:55. Goodness the time flew. "this" he said and pulled out a black box. It was small. "happy one month anniversary. I truly love you Jayla." he said and opened the box. It was a diamond promise ring. It had two hearts that were intertwined and studded with diamonds. It was all silver . I gasped. "it's gorgeous. It must have cost you a fortune." I said. "don't worry about that. I hope you like it. I got it in Texas." he smiled. So that's what he was doing while we went shopping. "I love it." I smiled and he slipped it on my right pointer finger. I kissed him. He pulled away. I looked at the ring on my finger. It was pretty and fit just right.

He checked his watch again. "oh and jayla?" I looked at him. He was smiling widely. "yea" I said, matching his smile. "Happy Birthday." he said and pulled out another black box from his jacket. My eyes widened. "oh goodness." I said and he opened the box. It was a matching necklace to the ring. "no fricken way." I gasped. He must've spent a lot. I felt guilty. I wasn't used to having gifts. He chuckled and took the necklace from the box and put it on my neck. It was beautiful. "I love it. You didn't have to get me anything." I said and hugged him. He stood up and I followed, putting on my shoes. "I'm glad you do. Of course I would get you something. What kind of boyfriend would I be? Besides I care for you alot." he said and pulled me towards him. "thanks. I love you." I said and kissed him.

I got home at 1:30. I couldn't stop smiling. What a date. I put away the jewelry Sebastian gave me. It was beautiful. I'd have to start getting used to wearing it. After I showered, I crashed out on my bed, I was exhausted.

My parents and Jas called me to wish me happy birthday. I told jas about last night and she freaked. She insisted I marry the guy. I laughed. I was way to young to be getting married.

My parents said that they put money in my account for my birthday and said to buy whatever I wanted. I was probably just gonna keep it.

I went to class and it was boring. I didn't have Sebastian today. The thought of Sebastian reminded me of something important. It was on the tip of my tongue. I didn't figure it out because my phone rang.

"hello birthday girl! I wish I could be with you right now. But I have to teach." Sebastian said. "it's okay. I had fun last night." I smiled. "good. I'm actually calling to tell you that my parents come tonight. So I'd like you to have dinner with us." he said. I forgot about that. That's what I was trying to recall. "great. Of course. What do I wear?" I asked. I didn't want to be over or under dressed. "just something nice but not too dressy. I can't wait for tonight. But I'll have to go. Class is almost gonna start. I'll see you after my class. I love you." he said. "okay. Have fun. Love you too." I said and we hung up.

What if they didn't like me? The question kept playing in my head. I was very nervous. Is this how Sebastian felt when he met my parents?

I paced my room. I had to get ready. I was just too nervous to decide what to wear. I wore a blue casual dress and slippers and let my hair down. I wore my necklace and ring.

Sebastian picked me up and drove us to his house. My stomach was doing flips.
