I stood in front of Jack's house pacing about in nervousness unsure what to do. I texted Jack telling him that I was already here and within few seconds he was out already with my smiling happily that I made it already to his house.
"You're here well come on in". He said to me smiling.
"Umm, I'm really nervous Jack, I just don't know if I can go through with this. I mean we're just not deeply known to each other this much that I should see your parents this soon". I managed to rush out.
He took my hands in his and asked me to breathe deeply to calm my nerves, which I did.
"You're gonna do great, don't worry they're going to like you. If I do, then why wouldn't they?". He said making me look at him in surprise.
He likes me?
Yay!!!
Finally, he likes me too.I smiled at him with light flutter in my stomach.
"I mean you're like my best friend right?", He added with a smile. My countenance fell immediately and so did my smile before I managed to put up a fake one just in time.
He doesn't like me too
I'm a friend, aren't I?
We entered into his house and I was encountered with little hugs on my legs. I looked down to see Jack's cute little sisters.
"You came back again, I'm Vernelle just in case, if you're wonderering". She said.
I smiled at the grammar she used.
"Its wondering and not wonderering". Jack corrected from behind me."Come and see mom". The other twin said as they both grabbed my hands towards the dining area where I met Jack's mom once again.
"Girls leave her alone, she's a guest". Margie interjected and they left me immediately. "I'm so sorry about the way they handled you like that".
"It's okay, I like kids anyway. "I replied.
"Sure, Jack get to your father down here for dinner and to see your friend". She said with a coy smile.
He looked weirdly at her before turning to me and then leaving me standing here. I felt awkward just standing, the twins approached me taking notice of their mother, they both dragged me once again to sit on a chair.
They looked at me in fascination before one of them talked,
"You're really pretty, Jack doesn't really talk to us much he says we're too much, but you're a girl just like mom". Vernelle said, I think."Do you like Eddie?". Veronica asked with a wide toothed grinwhich you can see a missing tooth.
I blushed a bit before answering, "Yes but don't tell him, its our secret okay?". I said to them as they giggled looking at each other knowingly and then they nodded together.
Just then Jack came down with a similar looking man bearing slight features with him and somehow I became nervous all over again wishing that Ara-ñat was with me right now. I stood as he came over to introduce us.
"Dad this is Tova, she's a dear friend of mine". He said making my heart squeeze at the word friend.
"Please call me Chris instead". He said as he stretched his hand out for a handshake in which I took. He voice sounded like a weather forecaster on the local news.
"Sweetie I see you've met our guest Tova, she's a dear friend of Jack's, isn't that right?". She looked at Jack knowingly and he nodded quickly.
"Well you're welcome to our house". Chris said looking relaxed and more homely."Thanks and your home looks very nice, I have a sister who's an interior decorator and she would love this setting, it's pretty amazing Mrs. Gillies". I input admiring her work.
"Why thank you so much Tova, I'm very grateful and your sister too I would really like to see some of her work I have some people who might be interested". She said making me happy to tell Dora the news.
Jack clears his throat breaking our conversation sheepishly before talking,
"Why don't we head to the dining to eat dinner?".We all walked over to the dinner table in the next room, Jack and I settled comfortably together next to each other while the twins also sat together. His parents were on opposite sides of the table.
We started eating as dinner was served. During the course of our meal ,Chris raised a question.
"Tova how are your grades?". He asked as Jack turned to me with an expectant look.
"Uhm its good I guess, I try to maintain a GPA of about 4.1". I replied.
"Wow! that's impressive". He remarked surprised.
"Thank you sir". I blushed shyly.
"That's remarkable at such a young age, maybe you can be able to aid Eddie in his school work too". Margie said during the conversation.
"That would be nice". I said looking at Jack from under my eye lashes.
"Well then let's continue with dinner". Chris says as we all silently faced our food.
Within few minutes we were done with our food and I thanked his parents and offered to wash my dishes to which they thankfully appreciated. I stood and entered their kitchen, as I washed I could feel a presence behind me and then moments later Jack joined from behind to wash his own plates beside me.
"Did you enjoy dinner?". He asked all of a sudden.
"It was great Jack, at first I was really nervous but I loved it. Thanks for inviting me". I stated truthfully. He just smiled and continued what he was doing, I could see that his ears were slightly pink. I placed the dishes neatly in the rack and could feel Jack from behind. Immediately I stood and turned only to meet him few centimeters from me. His hands grabbed my hips to make me steady and my hands which clutched his shoulders firmly.
I don't know how long we stood staring at each other, my gaze feel to his lips. Troubled at heart because of how he called us best friends I turned away from him and out of the corner of my eye he looked confusedly disappointed.
His hands fell from my sides, awkwardly he cleared his throat and then asked,
"Would you like to um... come to my room?". He said rubbing the back of his neck nervously. A habit of his I noticed.
"Um.. Sure I guess".
