"Did you find anything?" I asked, looking up at the two men who stumbled through the door, drenching wet. Both looked extremely pissed off, and considering my sister wasn't stumbling in after them, then they probably didn't.
"No." Daryl grunted, ignoring us, like usual, moving over to the corner where he had created a mound of his shit, instead of setting up in a room like the rest of us.
"Daryl? Are you okay?" Carol simpered, moving towards him, and before I could say anything in defense of my sister, Merle did.
"Alright! That is enough! I'm sick and tired of this shit! His wife and son are missing. Because of you and him. This is both of your faults. And you need to stop acting like his girlfriend. You were his bed warmer for two months because he was afraid his son wouldn't have a mom. You are nothing more than a replacement. And now, because of you, she's gone." Merle finished yelling at Carol, who looked shocked and offended, but I couldn't help but think that it was fake. Merle turned to look at us, rage and fear written across his face, and I think it was the first time I've ever seen a real emotion on him.
"Now, I know we said we wouldn't kick her out until Riley comes back. But honestly? Even if we did find her, I don't think she'd come back if she knew Carol was here. And what's the point in keeping her around? She doesn't fucking do anything! Maggie, Beth and Lori take care of the cleaning and cooking and everything, Daryl and I hunt, Rick you're in charge, and Glenn goes on runs, and Oscar and Axel do guard shifts. I mean even Hershel helps out with pretty much everything. But Carol does nothing! She needs to go." Merle growled out, and I honestly wanted to cheer, or clap, or something.
He's right, she doesn't do anything besides cause problems. And yeah, maybe before the world ended, a person wouldn't deserve a practical death sentence for helping a man cheat on his wife, but it's the end of the world. And Riley did more for the group than Carol, and she has a baby. If we're gonna get her back... Carol needs to leave.
"Alright. Let's take a vote. Raise your hand if you want Carol out." I said strongly, staring at Carol who was looking around at everyone in shock. I moved my eyes away from her, to count the hands.
Glenn, Maggie, Beth, Carl, Merle, Oscar, Axel and Hershel already had their hands up, and after a moment, Lori's hand moved up too. I looked to Daryl who was staring at Carol, a strange look in his eyes, and I eventually recognized it. Rage.
"Daryl please..." Carol whined, moving towards him, and before she could reach him, his hand shot up in the air.
"Get her out of here." Daryl said lowly, and after a moment, Oscar and Axel surged forward, each grabbing an arm, and it was like she went crazy. She kicked her legs out, screaming as the two men dragged her towards the door.
"Blindfold her and put her in the trunk." I called, following after them. We'd drive her away. Miles away. I'd leave her with a pistol and some bullets. But she wouldn't be able to find us. She thought we hadn't noticed. But Beth said that she saw Carol ripping apart the animals Daryl and Merle brought back with her hands. Acting like a crazy... monster.
The loss of her child, I think... might have made the woman lose her mind. And while I feel for her, I have to think of the well-being of my family. My group. My sister and her son. They would never be safe while she was here. Riley would never come back while Carol was here. And honestly my sister is worth ten of that woman. She would never have done this to someone else. Never have taken advantage of a grieving man. Never had... she would never have done this.
"Where are you going?" I heard a soft voice yell from behind me, and when I looked back, Lori had followed me out into the rain, shaking with her hands on her stomach. Desperately staring at me from the top of the steps.
"I'm driving her out. I'll leave her with a gun. But I'm going to leave her far enough out that she can never come back. I'll be back tomorrow night. I'll drive for a day, and then turn around and come back. Don't worry. I'll have Axel and Oscar with me. Tell Merle and Daryl that I don't want them to leave until we get back. I want them both to stay and watch over the group." She nodded, so I leaned forward, kissed her stomach, and then I turned around, jogging to the SUV where the others were already waiting, ready for me to take her away.
