It was the day of Maxie's graduation party. Katherine was hosting it at the house she thought that it was the only way to get Maxie to go. Maxie skipped out on all the balls and her mom's celebratory party when they got Brinkley Inc out of debt.
Maxie had see her mom's guest list for the party. She saw Bucky's name on it so while her mom and grandmothers were setting up the basement. Maxie snuck out of the house she hid at her dad's office.
Once the party started up everyone noticed that the graduate was missing. Sean went up to her room to find it empty. Katherine came up behind him and sighed.
Bucky asked them where she was when they came back down. Sean let him know that she was missing. Bucky made sure they weren't looking and he laid his gift on her bed.
That night when Sean brought her home after he found her. She saw the pink box. She unwrapped it and saw a Pandora box. She saw on the inside of the lid
"We Will Always Have Paris Princess JB"
She saw the bracelet had a Eiffel tower charm. She shook her head and put it back in the box. The next morning she got herself dressed and left.
She went up to his office and put the box on the paper he was reading. "I dont want anything from you." She said
"Maxie..this is my graduation gift.." he said
"And I said I dont want it.' She said as she walked away.
He walked to her "Maxie I said I was sorry. I never meant for you to fall for me." He said
She looked down. "Maxie.." he whispered.
He went to lift her chin she pushed him away. "Maxine Ellery..don't..I know I hurt you and Im sorry." He said
"I wish I had never danced with you or met you Mr Barnes." She said as she wiped tears and walked out of his office.
He took a deep breathe he shut his door. He rested his forehead against it. He walked to his bar he poured his scotch.
"One day my baby a girl is going to steal your heart what are you going to do then." Winnie said
"That wont happen. I will never fall in love. I just want to be successful." 16 year old Bucky said
"Baby..and when your friends are happily married and having babies. What are you going to do once you are king of the mountain huh? Its going to get awfully lonely up there." Winnie said
"Im never lonely mama." He said
"My boy what your mama is trying to say is. One day a girl is going to steal your heart when you least expect it. It will be lonely at the top if all you have to show for a long life is a successful business career. Its okay to be successful son but not at the cost of being lonely." James said
"Nope I will never fall in love. I dont want babies or marriage." He said
"Come see me in 20 years son and see if you changed your mind." James said
"I wont dad." He said as he walked out of the kitchen after Winnie finished checking his homework.
Bucky shook the memory away. Sam and his wife Sasha announced their pregnancy earlier in the week. As well as Clint and Wanda.
Bucky closed his eyes and took a few breathes. Sean broke his thoughts as he came in the door. "You ready to take off." He said
"Yeah let's go." Bucky said forgetting that they were about to embark on a two month business trip across the ocean.
