A Cock and Bull story

"Do you know what's funny?" said Anna. "Remember when the receptionist said that she was very forgetful and that she couldn't remember the guy who left the note in your room?"
"Yeah I do," said Nina. "What about it?"
"She said she was forgetful but she told us every single detail about Adam that day," said Anna. "Right down to his hair and eye colour."
"I know right," said Nina. "She's observant but says she's forgetful."
"And now that I think of it," said Anna. "It was funny how me and Lili almost caught Adam when he was shopping for clothes."
"Yeah and how you fell down?" said Nina, laughing. "Seriously how could two of you not catch one guy? He doesn't even know martial arts!"
"Yeah right," said Anna. "He actually mastered Jiu-Jitsu after he woke up from cryosleep."
"Oh How come you know and I don't?" asked Nina.
"Well remember when we told you we helped Steve find Adam?" asked Anna and Nina nodded. "He was telling Steve about it. They were talking about sparring and what not. Boring talk. So we made a quick exit."
"Hmm I should see how strong is he," said Nina. "I wanna bring him for some sparring right now."
She said that and left to Adam's room. She was calling his name and no one answered. Then she saw Shasha and Sugie chatting on the sofa with Anna.
"Where's Adam?" asked Nina. "Do you know where he is?"
"He and Steve went out together," said Shasha. "Bet they'll be back late."
"Wonder where they went," said Sugie. "They didn't tell."
"Well I think we should go shopping," said Nina. "I wanna pick a new dress."
"Humph!" said Anna. "Look who's talking now."
"All right I won't say anything to you when you wanna go shopping," said Nina. "I take it back, I like shopping too."
"Deal," said Anna. "Come on, lets go shopping. Shall we call the other girls?"
"Yeah I think we should," said Nina. "I'm not really good at picking dresses."
They went to the other chalets to call the others and they came. They went to the same boutique that Anna and Lili went to the other day. They were shopping when they suddenly saw two guys with hoods and masks hastily paying for the stuff that they had chosen.
"Is that?" asked Lili and Alisa answered. "Yep it is... just like Adam to do something like that."
"Seriously?" said Anna. "Does Adam still think it's a good idea to go around like that in front of us?"
"Please excuse me," said Nina. "I have to confront my boyfriend and son."
She walked over to them and pulled down their hoods and pulled both of their ears at the same time.
"If you wanna go sneak shopping, you better wear a different disguise," said Nina. "Don't think you can continue fooling me like this."
The guys somehow got away from her grasp and ran away.
"They seriously think they can get away with it, don't they?" said Anna when Nina walked over to them. "I have an idea."
"What is it?" said Nina. "What's your idea?"
"Well, I say we act like nothing is up," said Anna. "Then we make a revenge plan."
"Like what kinda revenge?" asked Shasha. "Nothing serious, right?"
"Nah nothing like that," said Anna. "I say we do the same lame thing that they just did. But we have to act extra suspicious so that they'll follow us, and then we embarrass them!"
"How?" asked Nina. "Are you saying we should humiliate them in front of everyone?"
"No not in front of everyone," said Anna. "Just make them feel humiliated. It's more of a prank, actually."
She started explaining to them about it and they all started laughing. It was a funny idea. The idea was that all of them do the same thing that the guys were doing, which was walk around in hoods, acting like they don't know them. Then when they realise, they would just act like strangers! It would be funny and embarrassing.
So they just bought whatever they chose and went back to the chalet. The guys had already returned. Each of them had a red ear. Nina acted as if nothing had happened and even inspected their ears.
"What's up with your ears?" asked Nina, innocently. "Why are they so red?"
The guys looked at each other. Then Adam spoke.
"Uh we knocked our heads together by accident," said Adam. "Our ears hit each other and that's why they're red."
"But it looks like someone pulled them," said Nina. "Did you pull it?"
"Yeah we did," said Steve. "I always wanted bigger ears."
"That was the lamest excuse ever," thought Nina to herself. "These guys should work on getting a better excuse."
"Well sorry neither of us had big ears, Steve," said Nina. "Just be happy with what you have."
She walked away.
"Do you think she believed us?" she heard Steve say. "That was an obvious cock and bull story."
"She believes you," said Adam. "I think she thinks that she was mistaken when we were at the shop. She's just the kind to believe a cock and bull story."
Nina felt slightly insulted and enraged when she heard that. She burst into the first room which was the room that Shasha and her mother shared. Anna was there too, chatting with them.
"You know what?" said Nina after closing the door behind her. "Not only these guys think they got away with the incident at the store, but they made up a cock and bull story and thinks I believe them! I heard them talking and Adam thinks I bought it."
"So what did they say?" asked Anna. "That they hit each other's ears?"
"That and they said that they wanted bigger ears so they pulled it," said Nina. "Talk about ridiculous."
"I didn't know Steve makes excuses as lame as that," said Shasha. "He was pretty helpful when solving that case the other day."
"I think he got that from Adam," said Nina. "He used to do that while we were still dating at college. He would go out to the arcade and play games and pretend that he was at the dentist, and when I asked him why the dentist was so noisy he would say that it was the equipment! Even if it was a YOU LOSE! OR CONTINUE?"
"He seriously thinks you bought that?" asked Anna. "Did you buy it?"
"No I didn't of course," said Nina. "But I pretended like I did. I just gave him the benefit of the doubt."
