Chapter 5: Diet Mountain Dew

Vanessa's POV

I woke up with tear stained cheeks, and Jason wrapped around me. For some reason I felt like I needed him last night. I just had this sudden feeling like someone was there. Like they were going to hurt me. Yeah I'm scared. No not scared, Traumatized. No one knows this about me but... I didn't have the easiest childhood. Everyone thought I lived this beautiful life with a full beautiful family, but I didn't. My mother was beaten by my father, I was beaten by my father, my mother had miscarriages, I was raped, and my older brother, Kaiden, was shot right there in front of me. All the horrible scenes from the past are all put together into one huge nightmare that replays in my head every night. You have no idea what it feels like. I use to think being abused by a man was alright. Until I grew up. I realized it wasn't right. I wasn't comfortable when I was around my father when I realized it. I felt in danger. I felt like he would hurt me. And he did, once. I was terrified of that man. It was torture to be sent to him. He only 'took' me was so he wouldn't have to pay child support. He wouldn't spend the nights home. He was always out with different women. And I would stay at his 'house'. His place of sleep wasn't a home. It was a cold, dark place where satan lived. That satan was the man who I once called my father. He changed. He was so much different, I miss the father I had a little girl. The father that would spend time with me and take me to the park, go out with for ice cream... The man I once truly loved.

"Morning." Jason said, his voice raspy.

"Morning." I whispered.

"How'd you sleep?" he asked.

"Fine." I answered, "and you?"

"Good." he smiled, sitting up,
"What's wrong?" he asked, with sympathy.

"What do you mean?" I asked also.

"You look... upset?" he said.

"I don't know. I just feel like there someone there. Out to get me. To hurt me." I mumbled the last part.

"I will never let that happen." he said.

"But Jason, you can't always-" I
began to say but he cut me off, "Yes I can! And I will." he said, pulling me closer to his chest. I sighed.

"But you have no idea what he's capable of..." I mumbled.

"No, you and him and all his little gang members don't know what the Jason McCann is capable of." he said, climbing out of bed.

"What do you mean?" I asked, sitting up.

"I have the strongest gang in the US and the strongest connections around the world. We basically rule the North side." he chuckled, dryly.

"Oh..." I mumbled, also climbing out of bed.
I just realized the clothes I fell asleep in.

"Jason? How'd I get in these clothes?" I asked.

"What do you mean? Last night I gave you clothes to change in and you changed." he chuckled.

"Oh." I giggled at my own stupidity.

I walked out of the room and down the stairs to the kitchen. There stood Ryan, Matthew, and Kian, I'm guessing he's Kian. "Dude, last night she was whimpering and so I went to comfort her but I hate the fact that she feels 'safe' to with Jason." Matthew said, taking a seat at the table. "Well she is Jason's." Kian said. "I told you not to try anything. She'll fall for Jason because he saved her life." Ryan chuckled. "It's not funny, Ry. I kinda like her." he mumbled. I hid behind the doorway to walk into the kitchen, listening to the conversation. "You don't know how hard it is to like someone when their slowly falling for someone else." he said. "You don't even know the girl, Matt." Kian said, opening the fridge. "But I do." he said. "How?" he asked. "I was the one who shot her brother." he said. "What? How do you know it was HER brother." Ryan said. "Kaiden Hood. They looked exactly the same and his father use to be our gang leader, Alexander Hood." Matthew said. "You did what?!" I cried, walking into the kitchen. "Vanessa?! You didn't hear that!" Matt said. "I heard everything!" I cried even more, and ran back up to the room. "Vanessa!" Matt shouted, chasing after me. I ran into the room almost bumping into Jason. "Vanessa? Whats wrong?" Jason asked, pulling me into a hug. "M-Matt killed my b-brother." I cried into his chest. "Vanessa." Matt said, walking into the room. "Leave me alone!" I shouted, crying more into Jason's chest. "Let me explain." he pleased. "Leave her alone." Jason told him, sternly. "I'm sorry." he whispered, walking out. "Shh, I'm here. Your brother he's here with you. He's watching over you, baby girl. He's protecting you along with me." Jason said, caressing me.

I love you, Kaiden. Rest in Peace big brother.

Jason's POV

After Vanessa fell asleep, I left the room.

"What the fuck, Matthew?!" I shouted, walking into his room. "What?" he asked, his eyes bloodshot. "What the fuck have you been doing?!" I asked, more worried about him right now. "Smoking, drinking. Does it matter?" he asked, slurring his words. "Matt you're wasted." I said. "And? is that bad?" he asked. "Yeah it is. You're under age. I know we've done worse but I don't want you dying earlier than you should." I said, taking the cigarette from him. "So what if I die early? It wouldn't matter because Vanessa hates me." he said. "So what? Is that all? Because a girl you don't even know hates you?! C'mon Matt you're better than that!" I said, pulling him off his bed. "Jase, what are you doing?" He asked. "Were going to get your mind off things." I told him, pulling him out of his room and down the stairs.

And that's the point I realized.... I fucked up.
