Alyssa

One word could ruin my day. And it did: detention.

I basically dragged my feet to the library, where after school detention was held. The world was totally against me today.

First, I got detention, then Brandon wouldn't leave me alone for one moment today. But all I could do was insult him.

I didn't bother letting Mom know that I wouldn't be home until later. She wouldn't notice. And if she did she wouldn't care.

I shoved the library door open open with my foot and strolled in, munching on the apple Myla gave me earlier.

Four other students were already sat down at the tables and Mr. McCall glared over at me.

"Even late to detention, Miss Crane?"

I spotted none other than Kaden Wolfe sitting at a back table. When we made eye contact he rolled his eyes and looked out the window. "Fashionably so." I responded to the teacher, making my way over to Kaden.

"No food in the library." McCall growled.

I looked the short, bald man in the eye and took another bite out of the apple as I sat next to Kaden.

The other students in the room sniggered and McCall's pale face reddened. He looked down at his clipboard nervously.

"Well, you're all accounted for. One hour in here, doing quiet things. No funny business." He looked at me pointedly. "Are we clear?"

The others nodded and I gave a mocking salute.

McCall pursed his lips in dismay. "I'll come check on you all shortly." With that, he left.

Two of the kids started talking to each other while the other boy laid on the ground to take a nap.

I looked over to Kaden only to see that his sharp blue eyes were already on me. My insides seemed to receive a ripple of electricity. Why are his eyes so intense? That isn't humanly possible, right?

"So why are you here, Alyssa?" Kaden finally asked. "I thought you got away with everything."

"I was at school all day yesterday, but I didn't show up in any classes. Oopsie Daisy." I shrugged. "What about you?"

Kaden shook his head. "Mr. Right got tired of me being late. So now I'm here."

"That's stupid." I bit into the apple.

Kaden's brows furrowed. "Do you always have food?"

"Ha. I wish. This apple is courtesy of Myla. She's the best." I tilted my head and smiled up at him. "Train my fighting skills?"

Kaden didn't even blink. "No. Alyssa, your pestering won't work. I won't train you, not now or ever. You don't need it."

I was determined. "Please. Please." I gave my best puppy eyes. "Please, please, please!"

"No!"

I stared at him for a moment. "Please?"
