Alyssa

"Kaden Wolfe?" Myla's jaw dropped. "He- wow. Just wow." She shook her head in disbelief as she sipped her coffee. "That's crazy, I've never even heard him speak."

"I know, right?" I leaned forward across the table. "And the strangest part: Brandon backed off almost immediately. No fight."

"Now that's made up."

I shook my head. "No, really. He just walked away. So I have come up with a plan." I grinned.

Myla's face morphed into worry. "Okay, I'm scared. Your plans are never good."

I waved it off. "Oh come on. Just hear me out. I'm going to convince Kaden to teach me how to fight."

"No."

My face fell. "What? Why not? I could finally get rid of Brandon."

Myla fiddled with her mug. "I don't know, I just don't trust Kaden. Don't you get sketchy bad boy vibes from him? I don't want you around someone dangerous."

"Dangerous? Myla, he saved my butt today!"

"I don't know, Alyssa. I just don't trust him." She grabbed my hand. "Just... be careful with whatever you're doing okay?"

"Don't worry, babe. I'm fire, remember?"

She rolled her eyes and pulled away from me. "Will Kaden even agree to teach you?"

"He... said no when I asked him today, but he has to agree at some point. I'm stubborn, I'll annoy him into it."

Myla chuckled. "I believe you. But you've never talked to him before, you know nothing about him."

I shrugged. "Minor details. Either way, he is teaching me."

"Kaden is only at school for classes. He is gone at lunch and leaves the moment the last bell rings. How will you catch him? I'm genuinely curious." Myla folded her arms, looking at me expectedly.

I huffed as I looked around the little cafe. "Hm. I'll stalk him. You know I couldn't care less about school."

"That's creepy, but go for it. I'm sort of curious to see what's going to happen."

"Oh yes, just grab your popcorn, why don't you?" I muttered sarcastically, but I grinned. "Who knows? It could be fun."

"Let's make a bet." Myla leaned forward. "If you actually get Kaden to teach you how to fight, I'll pay for an expensive dinner and a movie. If not, you're paying."

I stuck out my hand. "It's a date."

We shook on it.

Operation Stalk Kaden was a go.

I got to school early the following morning and camped out in my car in the parking lot. I was going to go all out. I was even going to learn his schedule.

It wasn't until seven minutes into first period that his black car pulled into the lot.

I shrank down in my seat as I watched him park and then climb out. The hood of his black jacket was up, concealing his face almost completely.
