Alyssa

Kaden blocked me. The jerk. And right after I said I was cute! He would pay for that on Monday.

I laid back on my bed with a huff. I was dead bored, but Myla was visiting her grandma all the way in Michigan.

Mom was downstairs drinking her second bottle of wine. We hadn't talked in over a month. Not a real conversation, anyway.

She was always distant from me, but lately it seemed to be getting worse. I just hoped that I would never get worse again, to fall into that pit again.

I shook the dark thoughts threatening to surface away. I would never fall to my demons again.

I was a happy, carefree girl, who didn't care about what others thought. I was firey, and loud. But I wasn't always this way. I had a very dark time in my life. A time I didn't think I would live through.

By some miracle, I was still here, I pushed through. Yet when it got quiet, when I was alone, those things would come back. I hated it.

I grabbed my car keys and left the house. Sitting around with silence was not good for me, so I drove around for awhile blasting my music. That seemed to help.

I ended up at the school, and I parked, looking up at the building for a moment. Yup, it was prank time.

Jerry was an idiot and left his janitor keys in the unlocked tool shed by the football field. So getting into the school was easier than falling asleep in a math lecture.

I kept the hood of my jacket up to avoid the cameras spotting me and walked around the school considering my options.

Should I prank one teacher? Or two? Maybe Mr. Rosen? Nah. The entire school? Bingo.

But what to do? It had to be grand, but something that wouldn't get me arrested.

Then it hit me. The school's agriculture department raised chickens and rabbits. Being loose in the school for a weekend? They would make a lovely mess for everyone to enjoy.

So I basically skipped outside to the coops where the animals were held. I hauled in all the crates, which took at least an hour. There were about forty chickens and seventeen rabbits in all, so it took some time.

I released six rabbits in the science building, three in the main office, and the rest in the counselor suite.

I put ten chickens in the commons, twelve in the gym, and allowed the rest to wonder the halls.

One black chicken was particularly angry with me and it chased me down several halls until I finally just ran out of the school.

Whoever watched back on the cameras would at least be entertained by the new rendition of Chicken Run.

I was about to walk away when I remembered I left my phone in the main office.

I glared at the chicken through the glass doors of the school. The evil chicken glared right back. It flapped its wings in warning.

"You won't scare me, you stupid chicken." I grabbed the door handle. The chicken glared.

I ripped the door open and jumped over the chicken. It squawked and I shrieked as I ran through the halls, making a beeline for the office.

I could hear its talons clacking on the tiles and its wings flapping menacingly. How was this chicken so fast?!

I skidded around a corner and nearly face planted when I tripped over an innocent chicken. "Sorry! Why am I apologising to a chicken?!"

I made it into the office and slammed the door closed. Something slammed into the door with a feathery smack.

A laugh bubbled out as I realized what just went down. Now this chicken was my sworn enemy.

It body slammed the door again and I shook my head as I laughed louder. How lovely.

I grabbed my phone from the desk I left it on and checked it. There was a text from an unknown number.

That chicken doesn't seem to like you very much, Alyssa.

My body went cold. I remembered that strange call I got a few days ago. Was it that same guy? I looked around in fear. I hadn't seen anyone in or around the school. But how could this person be watching me?

I shoved my phone in my pocket as a chill snaked up my spine. It was time for me to go home and lock myself in the basement. If I was going to end up on Criminal Minds I wanted to be a badass agent, not a body.

The chicken was still raging outside the door so the only out I had was through a window. But after searching the office, I found that none of the windows actually opened. Dumb idea, but whatever.

By the sound of it, my feathery friend was gone. So I slowly peeked out. All silent and clear.

I crept out and speed walked through the school to the doors I had opened. I was nearly there when my little enemy suddenly came running at me.

I screeched and booked it the rest of the way, shoving through the doors to safety. I wouldn't want to be the guy catching that little devil.
