The New Vocaloid

~Miku's POV~

A squeal.

This whole thing started with a squeal.

Now, this wasn't an ordinary squeal. No, this was The Squeal That Changed My Life.

The Squeal came from the mouth of Kagamine Rin at 9:42 on April 1st, 2008. I was reading a magazine from the other room when I heard The Squeal, and it startled me. The Squeal was then followed by the words "Everyone, come quick!"

Everyone came quickly to the dining room, where Rin was seated in front of her laptop. "Geez, Rin, what could possibly be so important that I can't even finish my breakfast in peace?" asked Len, who is Rin's twin brother. He had a half/eaten banana in his hand.

"I'm sorry," Rin said, not looking very sorry at all. "But a new Vocaloid has just been announced!"

This piqued my interest. "Really?"

"Yep!" Rin turned her yellow laptop so I could see the screen. There was a picture of a girl about my age with red, curly twintails, red eyes, and a gray and red outfit. "Her name is Kasane Teto. Look, it says here that she's the next installment on the Character Vocal Series!" Rin squealed again. "I can't wait to meet her! We're going to have a little sister, Len!"

Meiko, who was sitting across the table, sighed. "Just what I need. More kids to look after." She took a long sip of coffee.

Her husband, Kaito, patted her hand. "We haven't even met her yet. I'm sure she's nice."

"You say that as if we're a big hassle," I said, frowning. Then I turned back to Rin's computer to look at Teto again. I wasn't sure if I liked her. "She just looks like a red version of me."

"Like Kaito said, I'm sure she's nice," Rin commented. "We might get to go meet her later today."

"Rin..." Meiko said in her "mother" voice. "You know, today is April 1st... there's a chance we won't meet her at all..."

Rin turned to Meiko. "What do you mean?"

"Oh, I forgot you've only been around for a couple months," Meiko replied, shaking her head. "You see, April 1st is called April Fools' day. It's a day for people to prank each other. Teto might just be a joke."

Rin refused to believe this. "She can't be a joke! She has her own website and everything! And there's a picture of her right there!"

Meiko sighed. "Well, I'll guess we'll see." She stood up. "Come on, Kaito, let's go work on our song."

Len was next to leave. "I'm going to finish my breakfast.

I walked away too, wondering what Teto would be like. As long as she was like the Kagamine twins, popular, but not as popular as me, then I couldn't care less about her. But in the very back of my mind, I was worried that she may become more popular than me. I'd let her stand in the spotlight for a bit, since she was new, but I had to make sure she didn't overthrow my spot as the #1 Vocaloid. In the eight months of my existence, I'd shot up to the top, and there was no way I was letting my place go.
