Halloween Chocolate Tunnel Cake is a moist, from scratch, dark chocolate cake filled with a tunnel of orange cheesecake center and drizzled with a cream cheese frosting. Just the right amount of festive and spooky for your Halloween party!
~Ingredients:
-Cake Layer:
1 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour.
2/3 Cup Dark Chocolate Cocoa Powder.*
1 1/3 Cups Granulated Sugar.
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda.
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder.
1/2 Teaspoon Salt.
2 Eggs.
1/3 Cup Vegetable Oil.
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract.
1 1/3 Cups Milk.**
-Cream Cheese Filling:
2 (8) oz each Cream Cheese Bricks, room temperature.
1/3 Cup Granulated Sugar.
1 Egg.
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract.
Orange Food Coloring.***
-Cream Cheese Frosting:
2 oz Cream Cheese, room temperature.
1 Cup Powdered Sugar.
2 Tablespoons Milk.
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract.
Orange Food Coloring.
Green Food Coloring.****
Purple Food Coloring.*****
~Directions:
-Making the Cake Layer:
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350 Degrees Fahrenheit. Generously spray a bundt pan with non -stick baking spray. Set aside.
Step 2: In a large bowl, add the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt and mix together with a whisk.
Step 3: Add in the eggs, oil, vanilla extract, and the milk until just combined.
-Making the Cream Cheese Filling:
Step 4: In a medium bowl, add the 2 bricks of cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract and mix with a hand mixer on medium until smooth.
Step 6: Add in the orange food coloring and mix until just combined.
Step 7: Pour half of the chocolate batter into the prepared bundt pan.
Step 8: Spoon the cream cheese mixture into a ring around the center of the chocolate batter.
Step 9: Gently smooth the cream cheese mixture with a spatula to evenly distribute.
Step 10: Pour the remaining cake batter on top of the filling.
Step 11: Bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out cleanly.
Step 12: Let cool then flip onto a cooling rack to cool completely.
-Making the Cream Cheese Frosting:
Step 13: In a medium bowl, whisk together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
Step 14: Pour the frosting into 3 small bowls.
Step 15: Use food coloring to color each bowl. (We used orange, green, and purple).
Step 16: Drizzle each color over the cooled cake.
Step 17: Eat and Enjoy!
~Recipe Notes:
*We used Hershey's Special Dark Cocoa.
**You can also do half ( 1/3 cup) milk and half ( 1/3 cup) water but keep in mind that the milk makes the cake soft and moist.
***You can use as little or as much orange food coloring you want. It depends on your taste and what kind of food coloring you are using (gel, powder, liquid etc...). If you don't have orange food coloring on hand, you can combine red and yellow food coloring to make orange food coloring.
****You can use as little or as much green food coloring you want. It depends on your taste and what kind of food coloring you are using (gel, powder, liquid etc...). If you don't have green food coloring on hand, you can combine yellow and blue food coloring to make green food coloring.
*****You can use as little or as much purple food coloring you want. It depends on your taste and what kind of food coloring you are using (gel, powder, liquid etc...). If you don't have purple food coloring on hand, you can combine red and blue food coloring to make purple food coloring.
