Eight

Toni's POV

Sweetpea and Fangs walked alongside me up to room 186, the room that Cheryl and I had been assigned together. It was a slow walk upstairs, and with every step that I took: I was losing more and more confidence.

"Tiny stop biting your nails. It'll be fine, just talk to her okay?" Fangs threw his arm around my shoulders to comfort me. "She hates me Fangs, and she'll hate me even more now. What if I slip up and she finds out that it's me?" I mumbled, averting my gaze to my feet.

"She won't hate you, especially if she finds out that you're the one that's been making her happy for the past few weeks. You got this Tiny. We'll catch you later." Pea assured, making me realise we were just 2 rooms away from 186.

It's go time. I nodded to the boys who walked the opposite way down the hall. I stood before room 186 with my hands shaking, making their way to knock on the door. I knocked loudly a few times, just so she didn't get irritated by the amount I was knocking. I stood there and a minute or so passed, she didn't answer the door. I slid my hand down to the handle to find that the room was unlocked.

I walked in to no sight of Cheryl, however both room keys were on the table and our cases were stood up neatly next to the door. I made my way over to one of the arm chairs in front of the TV. Moments later, the goddess herself emerged from the bathroom, having redone her makeup.

She sat down in the arm chair across from me, but rather than her eyes landing on whatever was playing on TV, I could see they were sternly cemented on me. I sighed and gave up. "Look Cheryl... I know. I know that you don't like me, when this is all over you can go back to hating me by all means. But please Cheryl, can we just at least be civil for this week?" I asked, hoping that she could at least keep things between us steady.

She sighed in defeat and looked down. "This doesn't mean that we're friends Topaz, but yes. For this week only- we will be civil." She replied to me, it was enough at least.

"I'm also sorry. After what you explained to me in the Blue and Gold the other week I realised a few things. You're in a gang but it doesn't automatically make you a bad person." She looked up at me with a guilty expression plastered on her face.

"It's fine Cheryl, I get why you'd assume were god awful miscreants and criminals. I joined the serpents for a reason, I do a couple of fucked up things, sure. It doesn't make me a criminal, and I'd never be like that." I finished.

"Why... um why did you join them? If you don't mind me asking of course." She wondered. I sighed and tensed up. "My uncle... he's abusive. God it was hell when I came out to him. The serpents were like my non-judgemental family. They cared for me when not even my own bloodline did." I informed her, knowing about her struggles I was hoping that she'd open up to me too, but not as someone hiding behind an anonymous identity.

"I'm sorry Toni. I really am." She sighed and looked down in defeat. I could see the confused look upon her face, as if she was debating something. "Cheryl... what's wrong?" I enquired, knowing exactly what was wrong. "Nothing, come on we need to get ready for dinner." She forced out a fake smile.

I nodded and made my way over to the bathroom, to prepare for dinner even though we still had around 3 hours left. As soon as I got to the bathroom, my phone buzzed in my back pocket, and when I unlocked it to see who it was, I couldn't be happier.

I placed my phone back in my pocket and finished up the final touches of my makeup. I had to look good for her, even if she doesn't know who I really am.

When I walked out of the bathroom and sat back down in my previous position, I saw Cheryl in my peripheral vision with her jaw slacked open. I cracked the smallest of smiles with my eyes still on the TV.

Cheryl's POV

Toni and I sat and watched TV together for the next hour or so. When she walked out of the bathroom with a full face of makeup I really took in how beautiful she was. God I shouldn't be thinking things like this, I already like someone else!

I decided to check up on my favourite girl, knowing that she's on the trip too just spiralled my imagination, maybe she was super cute. What if I actually hate her in person? Oh god what if she's a serpent like Toni, she was persistent on me liking them. Shit. I pushed my thoughts aside and text her anyway.

Toni's phone vibrated when I sent the text to anonymous, and as soon as she typed back and placed her phone back down, I received a text back. Oh my god what if she's 'anonymous'?

I pushed the thoughts out of my head and shook it off, it was probably just a coincidence. Toni knew I didn't like her, and she seems confident so I didn't assume that she'd hide behind an anonymous identity.
