Ace's Point of View
My face was horrific and painful. Without looking at myself, I already knew it was heavily bruised from that punch. Man, who on earth knew Stella had such strength and agility, I thought she was just this damn social elite who aces math and sports.
"How the fuck are we going to cross this river?!" Matthew exclaimed as he continuously slapped the horde of mosquitoes buzzing around him.
There was a surprisingly large number of irritating insects in the wild today, even though it was still quite a while before dusk. My arm was already covered in red blisters from their bites. However, the river was far more of an essential issue upon us. It was far too wide for a pine log to naturally act as a bridge.
"True, the water is racing like bullets across one side to the other." Calista agreed.
"Maybe Stella can manipulate the river using her water element?" Farren suggested.
"Of course, I -" Stella began.
"No need, Lady Stella," Jacob announced. "We should never make her feel exhausted while we become fearless men."
"Yes sir!" Farren yelled out as Matthew and I shook our heads in despair while Calista stared at us in disgust.
"Alright comrades, we need to be realistic here," I concluded. "We'd either use Stella to calm the water current down or we use Farren to freeze the water for us to walk across."
Immediately, everyone glared at Farren who stumbled backwards with his mouth open awkwardly.
"Alright then." Farren muttered before concentrating on the mana around him and instantly converted the water to ice crystals.
It was disappointing, as now we couldn't walk across because the ice was too sharp - one misstep could lead to a swift fall onto a piercing ice crystal, resulting in a severe injury.
"I guess it's my turn now!" Matthew exclaimed before casting two beams of flames to burn down the ice stalagmites into smoother surfaces. "It's only a little wet now."
As soon as he finished his sentence, Jacob forced Stella onto Farren's back, acting like a horse whilst he directed the position. Matthew and I stared at them in a distance in shame.
"I thought humans are intelligent species." Matthew murmured.
"Everyone is just a monkey in a nutshell." I replied.
"I see." Matthew whispered while crying on the inside.
As we reached the half-way point on the frozen river, a series of vast wild animals and plants headed straight towards us, blood-thirsty and merciless. It alarmed our group, but luckily, we were easily able to take them out thanks to our fire and poison elementals through engulfing flames and explosions of decay.
"Be careful everyone, there are tributes with chlorokinesis and animal-manipulation!" Stella warned as she flooded the other side of the river whilst keeping our side dry.
Before I knew it, we were swarmed by edgy looking people in dark hoodies and robes, seemingly like cultists, each with a badge of the rising sun. Most of them were floating in mid-air, obviously possessors of flying ability. They came from all directions, but mainly on the small island in the centre of the deathmatch boundaries.
"Who the fuck are you all?!" Matthew screamed as he held fireballs stationery in his palms.
"Tributes of the deathmatch." One of the cultists stated emotionlessly.
